Sokka and Mai and Kei Lo were already on the ship and they waited for Iris. It didn't take long when she showed up wearing the mask of Elin's face, the one the Mother of Faces had given her.
Sokka smirked "Seems to work fine,"
"It's perfect," Iris said coldly.
"Great, now that we're all here..." Mai started as she handed Sokka some files "...Sokka, your new name from now on is 'Egorid' you are an Earth Kingdom Assassin..."
Sokka looked at the picture of the other man, almost as tall and as buff as he was.
"...you better consider changing the hair if you wanna be at least close to what he looks," Kei Lo said.
"Says here that he goes missing-?" Sokka asked.
"I killed him," Mai snapped.
Sokka looked at her shocked for a sec and Iris just shrugged "He was a murderer anyway," she said.
"Oh Aang would hate this very much..." Sokka mumbled.
"The Avatar isn't saving the world now. We are. He's just a jewel drawing all the attention," Kei Lo said.
"Can't say I don't agree," Iris said as she took a look from the folder with Sokka's new identity.
Sokka frowned, but didn't say anything and just shrugged it off.
"You guys are gonna head to Whale Tail Island. Your commissioner will be expecting you to give you your first mission as a part of the Red Shadow Demons Agency," Mai said.
"You guys need to do exactly as they say. We got one year to win their trust. Those missions are only missions to test how far you're willing to go to fulfill the cause-" Kei Lo tried to say but Sokka cut him.
"And what's that?"
"Kill the Fire Lord. Next are the Earth King and then the Water Tribes' Chiefs. Of course, we won't let this happen," Kei Lo answered.
"Are you ready?" Mai asked as she looked at both Iris and Sokka.
"I've been taking orders to kill people my whole life. This isn't any different," Iris said and she walked back on deck.
Sokka just watched her. She wasn't the same, of course. He bit his lip. He was gonna be there for her. What other choice did he have?
"I am ready, thanks Mai,"
Mai and Kei Lo left, and Iris and Sokka started sailing away towards Whale Tail Island. Iris seemed more than ready. Sokka was a bit... afraid of what was gonna happen. Actually, not afraid, he was worried. He knew the trouble his great plan of his was gonna get them in.
Iris was staring at the horizon before them as he commandeered the ship. She was silent. Hadn't said a word further. Sokka wanted to somehow break the silence, cuz breaking the silence was kinda his thing, but he felt... awkward. He was curious to see her deformed face beneath that mask the Mother of Faces had given her.
But he was sure she was gonna reject taking it off.
Whale Tail Island was very close. In a few minutes they'd reached their destination. Sokka let down his hair, changing his water tribe clothes to Earth Kingdom colors. He noticed the Assassin, he was supposed to impersonate, had a scar on his shoulder. A long deep line within the flesh of the muscle. Sokka frowned and he turned at Iris who was fitting daggers beneath her boots.
"Ir- Elin, would you... help me out with this?" He asked and he showed her the picture pointing at the scar.
Iris looked at the knife she was holding and she walked towards him. Sokka flinched almost afraid of how it was gonna hurt and she created that same cut on his shoulder. Sokka winced and the blood ran down coating his arm in red.
Iris was emotionless. She'd just created a lifelong scar on her friend's shoulder and she didn't even say anything or grimaced at all. She just bent the water from a nearby pot and she wiped the blood of his arm. She healed the wound just as much as it needed to make it seem like an actual old scar, and of course, she stopped the bleeding.
"That's a lot better, thanks," Sokka said sighing in relief as the pain washed away.
Iris just nodded and bent the water back in the same pot. She set off to keep fitting her ten daggers all over her outfit and she stayed quiet.
Sokka sighed and just grabbed the folder and read a few stuff about Egorid that he needed to know if he was to act like him.
"Some stuff you need to know about Assassins..." Iris finally spoke "...they don't fear pain, they're used to it..." she suddenly turned around dropping a dagger towards Sokka.
Sokka's eyes widened in alarm and he bowed down letting the dagger to stab the wooden wall of the ship "Iris, what the-"
"...they're fast, they're ruthless, killing is their job, money is their motive They have no friends, no weaknesses, no emotions. So from now on I mean nothing to you, and you mean nothing to me, am I clear?" Iris asked.
Sokka rolled his eyes "Yes, ma'am,"
"And they don't joke, Sokka. Welcome to my world," She said and she walked out of the ship and back to the shore.
Sokka sighed. He knew she was right. He fitted his sword behind his back and he followed her.
