When they set foot on the shore, they walked a bit further into the trees searching for the Red Shadow Demon agent who was supposed to give them their first mission.
They were silent all the way as they walked, until a flying arrow stabbed on the tree right in front of Iris, stopping her from walking any further.
"What's that?" Sokka asked.
Iris didn't say anything, she just waited till the man they were supposed to meet would come out. It was like serving for the Assassination Academy all over again. Iris was all too familiar with being assigned into killing people. The arrow thing, and soon the man would come out. He wasn't gonna introduce himself, wasn't gonna give any names. Just a nickname he's been given from the elders.
And he did show up. His face covered in a dark colored cloth, they could only see his dark eyes and his pitch black hair. He was probably from the Fire Nation.
"Elin Kershita," He said as he looked at Iris.
Of course, that was the name she'd have to get used to being called in.
Then the man looked at Sokka "Egorid Zarrick,"
And of course, Sokka would have to get used to being called with that name.
"Your first assignment, to test your loyalty to the cause..." He said and handed Iris a file.
She opened the leathered file and started reading at the paper inside. There was a picture of a place they should go. It was a town nearby. They should go in a house. A family of villagers living peacefully on their own. They should go there and kill their firstborn daughter who was no more than 2 years old.
Iris's face didn't even flinch. She had done this before. Kill young and innocent. Even a baby. That was the first challenge that definitely determined that worse was on the way. They were just testing these two. To see how far their new recruit would get to complete the cause.
Iris handed the file at Sokka and he read it, and his eyes widened and his heartbeat quickened. He opened his mouth to speak, but Iris stopped.
"Mission Accepted," Iris said and in a blink of an eye the man had disappeared.
Sokka tried to speak against it, but Iris stopped him as she turned around and mouthed 'Not here!'
Of course the other agent was still gonna be around and he was still gonna keep watching their every move. In case they failed, he was gonna kill them both.
Iris dragged Sokka back in the shore and in their ship where she knew the other man wouldn't be able to follow them. Sokka closed the door of their cabin and he immediately started.
"Aare you out of your mind?!" He shouted frustrated "It says here we should kill a fucking BABY! A little girl who has done absolutely nothing!"
"It is a mission, Sokka. A mission we're gonna complete as fast as we can so that we can move to the next step," Iris said as she sharpened one of her favorite daggers.
No anger in her voice, no frustration, not anything. She didn't look like she cared, she didn't look like she felt guilty even at the thought of doing that monstrosity.
"Iris, you can't just kill a CHILD! Okay?! It's..." he stopped for a moment trying to find the right words to express it. "...it's worse than actually murdering ANYBODY else,"
Iris dropped her dagger back on the table and she turned at him "From now on we are something worse than murderers. We are assassins, Sokka. We kill just for the fun of it. 'We do whatever they ask' that's in your fucking plan, Sokka. You don't like it, then leave and let me do my job!"
"I can't leave you... but I can't kill that little girl either," Sokka said groaning.
"I know you've never killed. But I have. Many times. While you were playing with your sister's dolls, I was out there killing five year olds and I fooled myself that I was just trying to survive. But I really... am an Assassin. I became one and I fucking embraced it. Can't you at least fucking try to act as if you do?!" Iris spat.
Sokka sighed "Okay, what's the plan?"
"We gotta move as if you're actually helping, but I commit the murder..." Iris grabbed the picture of the family's little house "...I'm willing to bet their daughter's room is in a room at the back. We'll sneak through that window..." she said as she pointed at the picture "...you'll keep watch if any parent is around while I walk in the room and do the job,"
Sokka shook his head "Are you sure you can do this?"
Iris chuckled bitterly "This isn't new for me, Sokka,"
