"It's okay, Hoseok can take over your shift, Joon." Head chief Hong stated as he walked toward the younger's desk. Hoseok who was still unaware of the whole situation just blinked his eyes twice at the mention of his name.
"Hoseok, you have a clear schedule for today right?" Hoseok quickly stood up when he recognized the voice who had been speaking with him.
"Y-yes, chief!" He gave the older man a ninety degrees bow before the older let out a laugh.
"I like his attitude, Joon." Head Chief Hong nudged while Hoseok caught Namjoon's soft snort with his supersonic hearing. He gritted his teeth before looking up and faking up a smile.
"What can I help you with, sir?" The older man clicked his fingers.
"Oh yes, I almost forgot why I'm here. So here is the thing, your partner is going to take his half day leave and he trusts you to take the rest of the shift." Hoseok scoffed as he looked over Namjoon who kept plastering a sweet smile with dimples attached on his cheeks. Trusts my ass.
The young officer felt like a mouse stuck in a trap. They were asking a favor by sweetening their words, although Hoseok knew they actually didn't mean any of them. They just made it up as if Hoseok was doing a big deal, yeah, overworking his actual shift was definitely a big deal.
But not that he could say no to his own boss, right?
"Of course, sir! I'll work harder in the future." Hoseok gave them a salute, which earning an exclamation from the middle-aged man.
"Yeah! I like your energy! Great job, young man." He patted his back as Hoseok flashed a smile that didn't even reach his eyes. They both exchanged a business laugh before the head chief stopped and muttered,
"You know, Namjoon never took a single leave in his entire career. So I hope you really didn't mind to take his place just once. Namjoon has this one son he dearly loves, he just needs half of his day to accompany him, Hoseok-ssi." The older male spoke in a rather serious tone unlike his cheerful one earlier. Hoseok sensed the different tension and gulped. He nodded his head furiously as he listened to the older man.
Oh, anyway... son? So, what officer Daehwi had been gossiping about was actually the truth? Does this asshole already have a son? Hoseok sucked his inner cheeks, he reminded himself to tell Jungkook this hot news later.
"Thank you, Hoseok." Namjoon muttered rather half-heartedly. The younger just replied to him with a slight nod.
"Thank you very much, Chief. I have to go now." Namjoon told the head Chief as he bowed his head. The older patted his shoulder signaling him to go now. And so Namjoon went straight to the staff room, leaving Hoseok and the head Chief alone.
"Thank you, Hoseok." The older man said as he lightly patted his back. "I wasn't wrong to make you guys as partners, you two suited each other." The older man chuckled, Hoseok just sucked his inner cheeks trying to hold his irritation.
