Insomnia - 7 years later

As another day dawned over the Crown City of Insomnia, most of the regular population were going about their daily business buying and selling goods, catching up with old friends. Some were even going out with their sweethearts. While the mood around the city was rather buoyant for those who happened to pass by the Colosseum  the sound of blades and spells could be heard singing as the users exchanged blows and mages cast destructive spells in an attempt to force the other to yield. As the sound of the clashing blades reached its crescendo, a stray dagger embedded itself in the sand only to be picked up by the one who threw the weapon. As the wielder recovered his weapon, the user barely had any time to react as his aggressor was on him in a heartbeat prompting a rather swift change of weapon opting for a shield as the blade smashed against the newly summoned weapon the summoner gave a smirk from behind the shield.

"You'll have to be faster than that Cor. After all, seven years and I know almost all your tricks."

"Don't get cocky Y/n. The moment you lose yourself to your delusions, is the moment you lose!"

As Cor kicked off of Y/n's shield prompting the latter to conjure up yet another weapon, Y/n took note of Cor's recovery feeling as though he was baiting him into attacking, the young man decided to test Cor's trap, in recent years the young warrior had informed the Marshall and the King of a 'vision' he had of the Fall Maiden being beset upon by three unknown individuals and nearly losing her life. Combining the recent events surrounding the maiden and Leviathan, both Cor and Regis intensified Y/n's training and that of his comrades as Y/n was to depart for Altissia in the coming months to start his search for the Hydrean.

"Never forget the fundamentals Y/n. After all if you rely on one attack pattern too often you become complacent, leaving yourself predictable."

As Y/n closed in on Cor at break neck speed, Iris and the others arrived just as Y/n and Cor clashed swords ultimately ending their bout in yet another stalemate. For the young fox it was plain as day how far each and every one of her companions had grown, not just physically but their skills as well. While Y/n had been trying to help Iris with her own summoning it became clear to the pair that it would take her longer to grasp it than most.

"Y/n sure is something, isn't he Rinoa."

"You know it, I'm still surprised that you haven't told him how you feel yet."

"RINOA!! Not so loud! Besides I don't think that Y/n feels the same way. Anyway we need to get ready to head for Altissia."

"Are we even sure that the Hydrean is even in Altissia? I mean, it's kind of a long shot to just assume one of the six will be where we're going, isn't it? Also have Cor and King Regis even given us the go ahead to leave?"

As Squall expressed the questions that were no doubt on everyone's minds, Iris turned her attention from Cor and Y/n's fight and towards the tinkerer with a rather stern expression adorned on her face.

"If Y/n wasn't ready do you think he'd be able to go toe to toe with Cor? The Marshall of Insomnia? Also known as Cor the Immortal, Squall? I for one think that he's ready so wherever he goes so do I."

"Whatever you say Iris. But by the looks of things they're just wrapping up. Wonder who won this round, or if it was another stalemate again."

As Cor and Y/n returned their weapons to the pocket dimension provided by the Crystal of the Lucii, the Marshall and Y/n made their way over to Y/n's personal retinue while Iris had hope in her eyes that Y/n had finally beaten Cor in a match, the young fox was slightly disheartened when Y/n only gave her a solemn smile prompting Iris to hug her friend and companion as a form of consolation.
