Lucis - Road to Hammerhead

As Y/n and his companions continued along the road towards Hammerhead a minor pit stop on the way to Galdin and ultimately Altissia, the young warrior took a mental note of the current fuel situation while Iris, Squall and Rinoa were having a leisurely conversation while Y/n kept his attention on the road.

"So what's it like living with a member of the Kingsglaive Squall?"

"It wasn't all fun and games what with me constantly getting into trouble, whenever I think back on it I was such a problem child back then."

"Yeah, but your heart was in the right place. 80% of the time."

"What about you Y/n? What was life like in Traxis?"

As Iris brought up Y/n's former home, the young warrior averted his gaze out towards the desert as the images of the raging inferno and countless Daemons swarmed his mind prompting the three to exchange concerned looks as Y/n simply returned his gaze back to the front as Hammerhead entered his view.

"We'll stop off in Hammerhead tonight. Then continue on our way to Galdin, we need fuel anyway. Tanks nearly on empty."

As the three passengers exchanged concerned glances, Y/n pulled into the service station. The growl of the car's engine drawing the attention of one Cindy Aurum, one of, if not the best mechanics outside of Insomnia, let alone Remnant. Even though Regis offered the young mechanic a workshop in Insomnia, Cindy declined opting to stay with her PawPaw.

"Well, I'll be stunned like a Sabertooth in a monsoon. Howdy there Iris. Been a while since I last saw ya 'round these parts."

"Hey Cindy. We're just stopping by for the night then we're on our way to Galdin."

"You finally land a date with that hunk a meat known as -"

Before Cindy could finish her sentence, Irish slapped a hand over the mechanic's mouth abruptly silencing Cindy while giving her a stare that would potentially kill and Daemon at mere sight.

"Not another word okay? I haven't told him how I feel alright. Also I doubt he feels the same."

As Squall filled up the car, Y/n made his way over to Takka's Pit Stop to prevent the others from witnessing him having breakdown, the last thing that Y/n wanted was to have the others worry about him when there are bigger things at stake.

As Rinoa exited the Mini-Mart, the young Mage noticed Y/n disappear around behind Takka's Pit Stop which struck the young mage as something out of the ordinary. As the young mage took a quick glance over at the rest of the group, Rinoa quickly went after Y/n as her curiosity got the better of her.

When Rinoa neared the side of Takka's pit stop, the young mage could hear the faint sound of sobbing, knowing that Y/n was the only other one around this part of hammerhead it became clear to the young mage that the sobs were from Y/n. Slowly peaking around the corner, Rinoa's eyes landed on Y/n slumped against the side of the diner a brass locket clutched in his hand.

"Y/n? Are you okay?"

Feeling Rinoa's hand on his shoulder, Y/n's head shot up as his bloodshot eyes met Rinoa's, the young mage gave her friend a concerned expression as she knelt next to him. As the two shared a silent moment, Y/n stifled a sob and let out a shaky breath as Rinoa took a seat next to him getting a better view of the locket in his hand and the photo of a girl with green hair and dark skin.

"She's pretty, family?"

"She was. She's been missing for the past seven years Rinoa. I don't even know if she's still alive anymore. Cor'd been looking but his searches had turned up nothing."
