It wasn't the best way to wake up.
You felt a small hand touching your face, trying to wake you up. You stirred and laid on your other side, facing away from whatever tried to stop you from resting.
"Mom, pwease" small voice cut through the air, causing you to almost instantly come to senses.
Rubbing your eyes, you looked at the three-year-old child standing right next to your bed. His big brown eyes were filled with fear and his whole body trembled.
"What happened?" you asked in a sleepy voice.
"Thewe is stowm outside and I'm scawed" he spoke with a lisp.
You sighed and sat up, trying not to wake your husband. Signalling your son to climb to the bed you sat up and helped your little boy.
You carefully sat him between your husband and yourself and then laid down. He snuggled into you and his shivering stopped.
"Better Tony?" you asked tiredly.
"Yes" he quietly answered.
Hearing thunder in the distance, you let yourself fall asleep again.
You woke up alone. Again. You knew that Howard had many things to do and you shouldn't be mad, but you were just sad at this point. He spent less and less with his family, instead working in his lab all day.
Something stirred right next to you and you reminded yourself of the events from the last night. Picking up the sheets, you spotted a certain three-year-old soundly sleeping next to you. His chocolate brown hair was a mess, but he had a small smile on his face. It seems like his fear was forgotten again.
Looking at the clock you registered that it was nine in the morning and you had a whole day to spend with your son. You didn't agree to send him to the kindergarten, despite Howard's arguments. You didn't want your son to go anywhere before he will learn how to be on his own, at least as much as a toddler can be. Because right now Tony was stubborn and didn't want to do anything you wanted to learn him. At least he doesn't need diapers anymore.
Yes, your little pumpkin was brilliant and way ahead when it comes in education (he absorbed the knowledge around him with his whole being) but he didn't know how to dress up or eat the way it won't be messy. Tony still used hands in eating and didn't know how to hold a spoon. You tried to learn him those things, but he didn't want to.
And he spoke with a lisp. He always refused to learn how to spell properly. But at the same time, he knew many words from random conversations that he heard and tried to write. It usually comes out as some squiggly line but he tries his best. He still walked slowly and had a hard time to keep balance. Again, he refused to learn things. He truly was a troublemaker. But you couldn't imagine your life without him.
When Howard decided to try to make a mechanical engineered child, you were sceptical. Yes, it sounded crazy, but at the same time, it was quite logical after he explained it to you. However, experiments failed and you became infertile. Your husband was so sorry for that, he felt a vast amount of guilt. You refused to speak with him for a month. But you talked and just decided that life go on.
It was a shock when you found out that you were pregnant. Doctors said that this was impossible and should be considered a miracle. But after they did a series of research it clicked. Your chances were really small, like 0.1% but not zero.
Howard wanted a girl, but Tony obviously wasn't one. You were grateful anyway because you were given another chance. So you did what you could to protect your son.
You unconsciously pet his brown curls, not noticing that he was awake and watched you with big chocolate eyes.
"What's goin' on mum?" He asked in a sleepy voice.
You glanced at him lovingly, stroking his head.
"Nothing sweetie, mum was just thinking. How was your sleep? Did you have any dreams?"
"Yesh, I was dweaming about being a knight in a wed and gold armouw, saving pweople and being able to fly! Oh mum, and I had so many cool powews! I could shoot lasews and fiwe!" He started rambling excitedly.
You just smiled amused by his imagination. Kissing his head you got up.
"C' mon Tones. You will learn how to use a spoon today"
"Noo" he whined at this and made a face.
You just giggled at this.
He truly is a miracle.
