Alice's POV

Sixty... Fifty... The  clock telling us when we could get off our plates ticked away the minute  I had to wait. The tributes were scattered all around the slimmest part  of the mountain, and I was between the idiot males from 5 and 7.  Thirty... Twenty... Only twenty seconds until I raced to the cornucopia,  got my whip, and sliced their heads off. But could I wait that long?  5... 4... No, I couldn't. 1... 0... I jumped off my plate, and sent a  fist right to Larry's temple, knocking him out. I picked him up and  threw him off the mountain. Bang. A cannon sounded.

Stephono came my way,  hoping to take advantage of my distraction to kill me. I spun around,  picked him up, and pinned him to the ground. I used my elbow to rapidly  dash at his throat, and he slowly choked to death. Boom.

I picked up Stephono's  body and ran towards the center of the mountain, hopefully finding  Jefferson along the way. No such luck. Halfway to the cornucopia, I  bumped into the district 1 female, and she raced towards me, knife in  hand. As she threw her knife at my head, I threw Stephono's body in  front of me, letting him take the knife. I picked him up again like a  club, the muscles in my arms flexing, as I bashed poor Mollie's skull in  with Stephono's thick head. Boom. I threw both bodies behind me, running foreward.

Just before I reached  the golden horn known as the cornucopia, the district 4 and 5 females,  Xylia and Lyra jumped me, pegging me down. Just as Lyra put her knife at  my throat, Jefferson arrived, his black and silver whip in his right  hand, and my sword in the left. He threw it to me, and I caught it. I  flipped Lyra onto her back, putting the Vorpal sword to her throat, and  Jefferson trapped Xylia up against a wall.

I went to slice Lyra's  throat, but hesitated. She had some fight in her, she could be useful.  Same for Xylia. "Jefferson!" I yelled. "Don't kill her just yet!"  Jefferson nodded his head, and let me continue. "Do you two want to be  our allies?" They both eagerly shaked their heads, and we let them go.  Even if they wanted to kill us, we'd still have the upper hand.

The four of us hiked  away from the center of the hourglass-shaped mountain, and we eventually  reached the top, where we set up camp. The anthem sounded, and the  faces of the dead tributes started to show in the sky.

Mollie's face was the  first to show, and then Larry, which meant that other than Mollie, all  the careers (district 1, 2, and 4) had survived, as well as the two from  district 3, and, obviously, Xylia. The next face to show was Stephono,  then Alek, from district 9. The tributes from 9 usually made it past the  first day too, odd. Then, it showed Jaxon and Flower, the two from 10,  meaning the girl from 9 had made it. Not a surprise, district 9 girls  always won. She'd be the biggest challenge to Jefferson and I. Finally,  it showed the faces of the two from district 13. Not a surprise. They  were only included starting the 3rd games, and didn't know much about  what they were doing. That was too bad, I kind of thought I'd have been  friends with the girl if I could.

Oh well, one less out of my way.

Jefferson's POV

After  those eight faces flashed in the sky, guilt took over me. I'd killed  Alek, Jaxon, and Flower, and I hadn't told Alice about it. These games  were causing us to keep secrets from each other, and I didn't like that  at all...
