A Visit to the Toy Shop

Lucette and I step outside, the wind blowing our hair to the right.

We walk in silence until Lucette makes the wrong turn and lets go of my hand.

"Lucette? Where are you going?" I ask, as my sister appears to be walking to her room. She doesn't reply and I sigh. I hope Lucette didn't decide to back out of the journey, but I'm sure she wouldn't as the king requested it.

I lean against the smooth palace walls as I wait for Lucette to come back. I play and twirl around with my hair, a dark hazel colored hair. I've always disliked the color. To me, it feels so plain compared to Lucette or Emelaigne's hair colors.

A pair of light footsteps interrupts my thoughts, as I see my sister walking towards me. However, she is dressed in a baby blue and white cloak, that seems to made out of fine cloth.

"Are you ready to go now, Lucette?" I ask, smiling. She nods and we make our way to gate to see Emelaigne, Rod, and Fritz. Emelaigne spots me and starts waving while smiling.

"Y/n! Lucette!" She says as she runs up to us. Emelaigne turns to my sister.

There awaits Rod, Fritz, and of course, Emelaigne.

"Thank you for coming, Lucette. It really makes me happy!" She says. My sister only stares at her and doesn't reply. "Anyways, let's go!" We all walk outside the gate to see two horse-drawn carriages in front of us.

"Oh! I haven't ridden one of these in a few years." I say to myself. Emelaigne smiles and looks at me.

"Really? Don't you visit the town all the time though, Y/n?" She asks.

I nod, "But most of the time I go by foot. It's against the king's orders, but I just love walking around town without using a carriage." Emelaigne thinks for a bit and nods.

"I suppose that does sound like a fun idea." She says, and Lucette and I sit in one of the carriages while Emelaigne and Rod sit in the other. Fritz decides to walk next to the carriage Lucette and I are in, and the horses start moving.

Lucette looks behind us as we start going further and further away from the palace. She blinks and narrows her eyes, looking as if in thought.

"Anything wrong, Lucette?" I ask.

"Yes. The fact that I'm going to town with Emelaigne." She replies. I grin.

"But aren't you excited to see what awaits in the shop we're going to visit? I remember that you love dolls. Oh, how's Delora by the way?" I ask, mentioning Delora, a beautiful, glassy, doll that father gave Lucette for her birthday.

"I'm certain that the toy shop does not hold dolls that are like the ones in my room. Delora is doing fine. If only she could speak. I might not have gone through all those years of pain then." Lucette says with a cold look in her eyes.

I smile slightly.

"But because you went through all those hardships, you're strong now. But Lucette, it's fine if you want to shed tears someday." I say.

Lucette looks at me with a confused and annoyed look.

"Y/n, only the strong survive while the weak die. I will not be one of the weak." My sister replies.

Frowning, I turn my attention back ahead. I once was similar to Lucette, one day however,  I felt something in me change. I wanted to become someone better, and it was quite a challenge to do so. It took one year to finally reshape my behavior.  Lucette and I's mother was very strict but she was only doing it for own good. We had to become the 'perfect' princesses in her eyes. Although back then it was both mentally and physically exhausting, I can't say that I'm not grateful for those lessons.
