Some people when they begin at a new school, they are excited, relieved to start new. No one knows you, no one knows what you've done. You can create a new person from scratch and no one could tell the difference. I, on the other hand, was dreading it. The thought of making new friends, have people judge you on every little thing possible... sounds amazing. Mostly because I was forced to change schools- technically speaking, Mom got a new job, we moved. Pretty simple. Now I'm stuck at this brand new high school for science, thankfully at least it was in the major I wanted to be in.
I was interested in the health sciences, hopefully becoming a doctor of my own one day. I was quite good at what I did back at my high school, Brigsburn, getting hundreds almost every one of my tests. Doubtfully, this school might be the one to wreck the wonderful GPA I have.
I stood in front of the school, the wind glinting through my hair softly as I stared at the large sign above the building.
'Midtown High school.'
I wasn't sure what to expect here, being brand new and all. All I knew that it was a smart school, a school for the kids that were the best at what they did. I'm not even good at making a bowl of cereal.
Students passed by me, brushing up against shoulders as they rushed into the establishment, heading to their homeroom.I, still standing ahead of the building, stood frozen, not even sure what to do with myself.
Firstly, I didn't have any orientation for this school. They showed me around once, and I barely remembered where anything was since then. I didn't even remember where the first classroom was located. "You'll be fine, Elena. But you can't just stand there, you do have to go inside." My mother's voice rose from behind me.
She must've just finished parking the car, as it is Queens, New York, there's no parking anywhere. My mother wanted to to be there for my first day even though I was already at the edge of seventeen, almost a legal adult."I know what you're thinking. Let's go now." She tugged on my arm, causing me to stumble through the door.
I caught myself quickly, reach to fix my bag strap that laid on my shoulder, across my chest. My mom headed to the office right off the bat, quickly talking to the advisors to make sure I knew where I was going. As she did that, I walked myself over to the chairs seated in the front area of the office.
The first thing I noticed was two pairs of eyes staring right at me. I turned my head, furrowing my eyebrows as I look at the two boys to investigate. The smaller boy quickly looked away, his face becoming scarlet all over, as the taller, larger boy started laughing.
I narrowed my eyes at the boys until one of them finally began to walk off, leaving the area of which they were.
"Lovely! I can get one of the top students to show your daughter around. I'm sure he would be a delight to both you and Elena." The advisor said to my mother loudly, quickly taking hold off the office phone and typing the numbers in loudly with her acrylic nails.
My mom turned around to me, hunching her shoulders to get me a thumbs up. I smiled weakly back to her, knowing how this is already gonna go.
"Isn't this just exciting?" My mother asked me, seating herself right next to my chair.
"Well, not exactly. I don't know anyone in this school besides the advisors here. I don't even know the principal's name, Ma." I whined, sinking down into my chair.
"You'll be fine, Elena. You did perfect at your old school, I'm sure you'll be a perfect fit here. As well as being able to get a more selective course for your studies." She eyes me, giving a little smirk.
I nodded, knowing she was right about the classes at least. I could take my health-related classes, rather than being forced to take classes I don't necessarily need for the profession I want to get into. Still, I'll have to take the basic classes like trigonometry, and world history, but at least I know I'll be able to get something out of it this time around.
"I don't know. This school is really high tech- I'm most likely going to fail, even up not be able to graduate- you're going to hate me, I'll lose my home, end up homeless on the streets looking for my next meal in a garbage can behind the mall." I sighed, covering my face with my hair by brushing it all forward.
"Darling, you're being overdramatic now. Just take a deep breath, you got this." My mother smiled weakly, the smile lines showing softly on her cheeks.
My mother was quite young for her age, being a teen mom herself, she gave birth way too young than need be. It's why she is also easier to talk to in my opinion.
Age has barely taken upon her, wrinkles hardly able to be seen unless she were to furrow her brows, smile, or etc. Nonetheless, my mother was young and beautiful, something she said I got from her.
My father on the other hand, almost out of the picture. Sadly because of how things were handled before I was born, I'm forced to see my dad at least once a month for a few days.
But alas, it was the law, and the court's decision, so it's not like I had much choice anyway.
Since my father had left, my mother wasn't almost the easiest to be around. The stress of being a single mother having to deal with a newborn baby, it eventually took a toll on her. Her anger for my father ended up being angry with me.
I sighed loudly, groaning at the same time. Just as my mother was about to say something else, the door swung open slowly, a head peeking through.
"Hello? You wanted to- uh, see me?"
I turned around and looked to meet the dark brown eyes of the boy before. His dark locks falling into his face, but still groomed nicely.
"Oh, it's stalker boy."
