"Shisui-sensei," Naruto called out, the seven-year-old was walking onto the training grounds, it being almost midnight, the moon was being rather generous with the amount of light that was shown on the night of Konoha, but tonight was doomed to be the most tragic thing to happen in Konoha history. "Sensei!" He called out again, this time shouting a little.

It's been a year since Shisui took him under his wing. He fed, clothed, trained, and taught Naruto many different things over the course of the year, including a little bit of taijutsu and flexibility training so that he could avoid the villagers easier without getting in trouble with that old man that claimed to be a Hokage.

He was kinda like an older brother to the blonde, or at least that's what Naruto thought at least, having no one in his entire life besides the old man, who betrayed him, and Shisui, so the boy thought that it'd be best, though he kept it to himself.

"Shisui!" He called out impatiently, patience was not something Shisui could teach the blonde, no matter how much he truly tried. He heard a rustling in the bushes but waited calmly, his teacher often pulling stuff like this.

But the man that emerged was not Shisui, it was his best friend, Itachi.

Naruto had met Itachi a handful of the times, the meetings not lasting longer than five minutes, but the thirteen-year-old was pleasant enough to be around. He didn't seem to mind Naruto, making Naruto like him.

"Itachi-san? Where's Shisui?" He then noticed that Itachi had blood splattered all over his Anbu gear, a piece of paper in his right hand and a crow on his shoulder, a Sharingan in its eye.

"Naruto," Itachi began as he got within talking distance to Naruto, whose anxiety was making his heart beat a mile a minute. "I, I'm sorry." He said, sounding remorseful. Naruto took a step back from the Uchiha Prodigy.

"W-What do you mean?" He whispered, his heart sunk in dread as he saw the sadness in Itachi's eyes.

"Shisui is dead, and," He paused for a moment, pondering if he should tell the truth or not. No, the truth would be worse than a lie. He's told Sasuke a lie, and he will tell Naruto a lie as well. He steeled his will and made his Sharingan activate, towering over Naruto menacingly. "I killed Shisui." He whispered.

Naruto's eyes widened in horror at the statement. No, no, Shisui couldn't be, Shisui wasn't, he, he wasn't dead!

"You're lying!" He shouted, pointing at Itachi as tears threatened to spill out of his eyes.

"Oh really?" Itachi questioned, his voice emotionless, no more remorse in his tone. He handed Naruto a piece of paper, who took it with shaky hands and began reading.

Dear Naruto,

If you're reading this, then I'm dead. Ha, I wasn't even eighteen yet, oh well. That's not what this letter is for. It's an apology.

I'm sorry that I can't see you grow strong, it's every teacher's wish to watch their student surpass them, and Naruto, you can surpass me. I believe in you and I always have. You were like a little brother to me, and I can't believe how attached to you I got to you in a year, it's crazy.

You better live a good long life, or I'll haunt you in heaven!

Anyways, yeah.

Goodbye Naruto,

Shisui Uchiha

"It's not true, it's not true." Naruto denied repeatedly. "Shisui was strong, he couldn't have died." Itachi sighed internally before he grabbed Naruto by his throat and lifted the child in the air.
