Chapter 1: Nightmares

Bang!

I heard a shot.

I ran away, surrounded by darkness, trying to find my way through the cold.

Bang!

Another shot.

They chased me. I had to run faster otherwise...

Bang!

I fell to the ground.

The white snow cooled me down. I shivered. I wanted to get up again but I couldn't feel my legs.

I turned around and gasped.

Blood. Blood everywhere. But where did all of this come from?

I didn't take long to find out.

They shot me. Right in the back. But I didn't feel any pain at all. Maybe because I was in shock...

I pressed my hands on the wound, trying to stop the blood.

Of course, it didn't work out.

"Here you are!", a deep male voice mumbled and kneed down right next to me.

He was covered in black, so I couldn't recognize him.

"Say goodbye to this world", he said and placed his cold gun on my forehead.

I gasped and closed my eyes.

Bang!

I opened my eyes and sat up in bed, my heart beating rapidly.

It was just a dream.

Just a dream.

I closed my eyes, trying to calm down again.

I failed.

My eyes filled with tears and I started to cry.

"Elena?", I heard his sleepy voice next to me.

I quickly wiped away the tears.

"I'm sorry, I didn't want to wake you up", I sobbed.

He got up and grabbed my hand.

"What happened, honey?", he asked, softly stroking the back of my hand, his warm caramel eyes looking at me intensely.

"I- I- It was... Just a dream, a nightmare", I mumbled sobbing.

Immediately, he held me in a tight embrace.

I buried my head on his well trained chest.

"Shh, it's okay, honey", he whispered, gently caressing my hair, "I'm here for you now."

"Nathan, I...", I sobbed.

"Don't speak, Elena. Everything will be fine. I promise!"

Damn nightmares. I didn't even know why I always dreamt of this scenario. It was strange. And after three weeks, I was tired of all this. I just wanted to sleep without being afraid of getting killed in my dreams.

Luckily, Nathan was there for me. He consoled me every night and I was thankful for him.

He was as solid as a rock.

I couldn't imagine a life without him anymore.
