(y/n) never really liked to see her face after that faithful accident... She avoided her reflection at all cause, keeping her eyes closed when the nurses came to change the bandages on her face.
It was just an accident. She was in a gas station and she just needed to refill her motorcycle when it all happened. Apparently, one of the pumps had some sort of malfunction resulting to an unwanted explosion. And just as that, (y/n) was one of the people who were caught in the fire, damaging her face untill no one could recognise her anymore,
It had been over eight months since the accident and during those times, (y/n) was stuck in the hospital for further treatment. Today however, was the day that she finally can go back out there and start a new, except for her face. She rather wear a mask outside, too afraid of what others will think. She deemed herself to be called ugly, freak or rather a monster.
She was so sure that people would avoid her than befriend her and understand her situation. They would give out occasional whispers behind her back, look of sympathy and disgust would be thrown on her way, so she just kept her head down and hoped for the best.
So when she got accepted to work at a local market, she was more than determined to do her best. The manager didn't seem to mind her appearance, they really don't care what others look on the outside plus, they seemed to notice how desperate she was for a job. As the weeks passed by, (y/n) was going back into her old self, a bit more cheerful, caring and open. She was even able to make new friends.
Although, even how much she tried, she still couldn't accept the fact that her face was still different, the looks were the same, the whispers were still there, she felt as if she's been hiding her true self underneath the literally mask she had on and she couldn't bear with it.
One day, Jay—the manager's son, had a pal visiting the shop. Matt, walked inside the store, search anything useful he could get for his new apartment. He had just moved into a new apartment with the help of Jay, "seriously man, thank you for letting me have a discount." Matt spoke, happy that his friend was there to help him settle in. Jay just laughed at Matt's gratefulness. "I told you for the fifteenth time, it's no problem. I'm happy to help my friends," he replied and gestured for Matt to look around the store. Matt nodded and went off to aisle after an aisle,
In one particular aisle is where (y/n) stood on top of a ladder to arrange the products on the top shelf. She was placing the new arrivals, she didn't seem to notice that the ladder stall was imbalance, thus resulting for it to be unstable to step on. Matt, who happened to be on the same aisle, saw the falling employee and immediately dropped his basket and ran over to catch them. Only for him to also lose his balance and fall off to the side with (y/n) in his arms.
Groaning at the slight pain, (y/n) was thankful that she didn't break her neck. Once she looked up, her mask was already an inch away from Matt's surprised face.
Customers and other employees turned and stared, they couldn't help but feel like they were watching the scene out of a movie. After that cheesy, awkward introduction, Matt was able to introduce himself—properly,—and so did (y/n).
The following days, Matt was unable to remove the thought of the masked girl in his mind. He had asked Jay about her and found out about her past. On the inside, Matt can't help but feel the need to show the lady that she is loved and accepted. And that's what exactly he did. He started courting (y/n). Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, and finally, by the Christmas Eve,
She said yes.
Matt couldn't feel but be more than happy from the answer, he danced with her around, lift her up and twirl her around. The smile never leaving his face.
He dragged (y/n) to a nearby field on the outskirts of town. The view of the sunrise was perfect along with daisies blooming around. He sat her down next to a tree, with his hand still holding hers.
He smiled, happy as ever he can be, but he still wanted to see the smile from underneath the mask, where all her laughs and giggles comes out of. Glancing down, Matt knew that (y/n) was afraid but at least he wanna try.
(Y/n) glanced at her boyfriend, the glint her eyes wore off when she saw the seriousness on Matt's face. It was time. She knew that one way or another the mask has to come off... She has to face her deepest fear, and most importantly, she has to face the oncoming rejection.
"(Y/n), I know you're afraid. But you gotta trust me on this... I love you and I don't care what you look like but you gotta take the mask off. You can't live with it forever.." Fear filled her eyes, what will happen if he saw her? What will happen to them? They just got together and–
"But–", Matt hushed her up. "I just wanna see you live freely... Don't hide under this thing." He encouraged, rubbing his hand against her as a sign of gesture. (Y/n) closed her eyes and nodded. She was ready.
Unclasping the straps of her mask, Matt carefully pull the piece of plastic out of the way, placing it besides him.
There was silence...
(Y/n) slowly opened her eyes, and for the first time she could feel the air tickling against her face. The way that she could see around her without a restricted view was refreshing. Slowly, she turned to face Matt who had a wide smile on his lips and slowly caressed her cheek with his hand,
"You're Beautiful..."
