Buttercup by Jack Stauber

KAGEYAMA'S POV
"Quick an earthquake! Everyone take cover!"
"Kageyama!"
"Kageyama!"
I opened my eyes to see Hinata shaking me awake.
I jumped and retracted my shoulders out of his grasp, turning away to hide my heavy blush. And... oh. The surprise of Hinata straddling across my body got me a bit... excited.

HINATA'S POV
I woke up to cuddling my volleyball, clutching to it with such force I'm surprised I didn't pop it. I got out of bed and turned on my speaker, my morning playlist automatically playing. The sun just showed over the hill visible from outside the bedroom window. I checked my phone.

7:05 am

That's super early for me on a weekend.

I wondered if Kageyama was up, maybe we could play some volleyball, or even do our corresponding homework from our classes we share.

I just want to see him.

~~~~~~
I hopped on my bicycle and peddled to Kageyama's house. The only problem was I wasn't sure where his house actually was...
I biked down the street he goes when we part ways and I settled on knocking on the house that had two volleyballs in front of it.
I knocked and a middle-aged women answered the door.
"Hi... um... is this where Tobio Kageyama lives?"
The lady laughed and looked down at the boy in front of her. "Are you his friend? You're the first of his to ever visit the house."
A smile spread over my face and my eyes widened happy that I got the right house.
The lady laughed again. "You certainly are very different from Tobio. He's always sulking and frowning around. Either in his room or playing the sport that he plays, oh, what is it?"
"Volleyball?"
"No, I don't think so... maybe."
"It's volleyball, I'm on his high school team. My names Shōyō Hinata."
"Nice to meet you Shōyō" she smiled.
I rubbed the back of my neck and tried not to come off as impatient. "So, is Kageyama here?"
"He might be upstairs, you can go check."
"Thank you!" I stepped inside. It was a two story house that had an aesthetic front and lawn, but the inside was not exactly what you would call welcoming. Scattered letters and newspapers everywhere, bottles and clothes about, and empty containers flooded the floor. As I walked up the stairs, empty picture frames hung on either side. By talking to Ms. Kageyama, I had a feeling that she wasn't around a lot. I mean, she didn't even know the King of the Court played volleyball! It would also explain the mess and lack of family pictures.
I got to the door at the top of the stairs and knocked. No answer.
"Kageyama?" I questioned as I peeked my head around the corner. It was a simple, clean room, unlike the downstairs of the house. There was a bed and a desk, no other furniture. A set of dumbbells and a volleyball layed at the bottom of the wooden, queen sized bed. Pens and paper had been positioned on the desk with intense parallel lines and 90 degree angles that only could have been done with a straightening tool. At first glance there was no one to be seen, but as another scan of the room was in progress a lump could be spotted under the covers on the bed.
I walked over and looked at him. His face was a blank canvas, untouched by an emotion yet. It was a soothing, handsome face that held strong and prominent features. I blushed at my thoughts and turned away, only to stare again when I couldn't look away any longer. I reached out and touched his stray lock of black hair. I quickly retracted my hand and scolded myself. The hair fell over his eye, and he moved his head to fix it. The setter's bare neck and collar bone was now heavily exposed and sticking out, which only made me blush more.
Hot.
"Kageyama..." I called shaking him on the shoulder. He grunted and rolled on his side moving to the far left of the bed. I got on the bed and inched over to him on my knees. "Kageyama...wake up..." another roll occurred, this time to the right, hitting my knees and knocking me over on top of the setter. I regained my balance by holding onto his shoulders and straddling him. I then proceeded to shake him and call his name till he woke up.
"Kageyama!"
"Kageyama!"
His eyes opened and immediate surprise hit him. He retracted his shoulders and looked away. "Dumbass! What the hell are you doing in my room!?" He yelled, still facing to the side. Even though he wasn't looking at me, I could still see the heavy blush on his face.
How cute that someone can blush THAT much.
KAGEYAMA'S POV:
I pushed him onto the ground and sat up in a crisscross, setting a pillow over my sweatpant-covered lap.
"I- I woke up early and- I don't know I thought you- you might be up so I rode my bike here. I went down the road you go-"
He continued talking but I had zoned out. I didn't know what to say. Never once had anyone's first instinct when they woke up was to come and see me. It felt amazing. Hinata's presence felt amazing. The lack of background talk and a stunned look on Hinata's face brought be back from my emotions. "What?"
Hinata pointed at my face and smiled so big it must have physically hurt. "Your smiling!" I felt my muscles in my face as I noticed that the corners of my mouth were in fact raised. "No I'm not dumbass!" I yelled as I turned my head and put my hand over my mouth.
