I woke up with a sharp pain in my lower back. I opened one of my eyes and saw a cracked wall and creaky wooden floor. I jumped up, started from my surroundings. I looked over to see Declan laying on the floor next to me. I realized we had fallen asleep after finishing the dress last night. He yawned, stretched, and jumped back as well when he saw me next to him.
"We fell asleep," I said.
"Oh. Sorry, did we finish the dress?"
"I think so," I replied grinning.
"Well then go try it on!"
I scooped up the dress and ran to the front of the store. I slipped on the silky material, every seam clung to my curves, illustrating my body perfectly. It was strapless with a beautiful pigment of black. It had a heart-shaped align revealing just enough cleavage and, an edgy, studded belt to give it the extra flare. I ran back to where Declan was sitting in the stairway and twirled, causing the train to spin in the air.
"Wow."
"Thank you so much, I couldn't have done it without you."
"Anytime, but you probably should get going. Isn't it supposed to start this evening."
I looked at the dainty watch on my wrist.
"Oh shoot you're right they'll be looking for me everywhere."
"Then go! Have fun."
"Do you wanna come with me?" I asked with a pleading smile.
He looked down into the portal and back at me.
"I wish I could but, I can't. I'm not allowed to leave. That's why I don't move from the steps."
"Damn. That's alright I get it. I'll be back tonight ok?"
"Ok, see you soon."
As I ran out my high tops pressed into each plank of wood. For once in my life was excited about my mother's annual gala. My heart skipped a beat when I remembered the night before, I didn't know why but it did.
