This is the last chapter and so, it'll be longer than usual but anyway, enjoy :) ❤
By the way, time skips will be indicated like this (* * *) and I know I didn't ever use time skips but I really want this to be the last chapter because dragging the story too far would be pointless to the plot and really unnecessary. Thanks again for keeping up to the end. Enjoy :)
The night was unforgiving, its breeze merciless as it refused to drop its frigidity which was was slowly chewing on our damp skin, our drenched clothes doing less to make our situation any better.
The rain had long stopped, along with the fire it subsided, leaving us completely drained and stranded on the island I hated most.
Amelia wasn't taking the news well, she has been dwelling on it for over possible hours, even while she slept, tears ran down her cheeks as she shivered from the cold we all hardly endured.
Meanwhile, I somehow found a way to block it out, caging all the feelings, and all thoughts aside whilst I sat next to Aiden who was just as unable to lull himself to sleep as I was.
Everyone else was asleep, though, hoarded in a large tangle on the sand, in a failed attempt to be welcomed with the warmth that surely didn't exist.
How everything worked its way to reach this point, was beyond my understanding.
There was no sign of hope, nothing to keep us calm and collected. Not when there was no way we could get back to Levilnor, where we'd be escorted to the safety of our homes.
Even if there was no doubt they had burned down my house, my heart was still sure Aiden wouldn't let me fall back to square one. Where I'd be exiled, or executed.
He wouldn't.
And I know that because he found in him a strength that was certain to stop his father from inflicting any further damage. He found the leader part of him. The part he always carried but never really acknowledged, hidden underneath a tyrannous facade forced on him by his father.
"How would you feel if you saw Torryn again?" I asked, the question tumbling out of my mouth before I even got the chance to stop it.
I had to be careful about what I say to Aiden when it came to this specific topic. All the moments I had seen of him on camera in the arena, telling everyone how Torryn was unfair to him, had me aware of what really went on behind closed doors.
Him getting locked up in the auditorium for trying to save my brother, being the most dominant thought of all.
Aiden turned his head to look at me, a small smile playing on his lips, his eyes drooping ever so slightly. "I really don't know. I think I'd just put everything past me and hug him. Only because I'd be grateful to have lived to see another day with my father in it."
