Chapter 7 : How To Avoid Being Captured
We exited my boss’s lab and ignored his pleas for us to stay. I already knew my boss wasn’t going to listen to me. He didn’t understand that I needed Warren to stay with me. He had guards coming after us - well, more Warren - and they weren’t going to stop.
“This way,” I told him. “I know this place inside and out. They’re already blocking all the exits, we need a new different way out.”
“Any ideas?” He asked as he ran behind me. I opened the door and dashed out into the hallway. The elevators were not an option right now.
“I’ve got one,” I told him.
Suddenly, a loud voice boomed over the loudspeakers that were all over the lab. “Attention,” Dr. Helmich said. “There is a Caucasian male, about 6 feet, black hair, brown eyes, and a lip ring running around the facility. We need him alive, bring him to the ground level.”
“Shit,” Warren muttered. “Now what?”
“We avoid the ground level,” I said uneasily.
“How?” He roared at me. “I’m not a vampire anymore, I’m as useless as shit without any weapons!”
“Calm down, I have an idea,” I said. “Let’s go.” We moved quickly down the hallway. When we got to the end, you could either go left or right. They’re were probably guys in hazmat suits crawling all over the place, so it really didn’t matter which way we went. “Can you knock a person out?” I called over my shoulder as we continued to run down the cold hallway.
“Alex, that’s what I was made for,” He called back. “Literally.”
I couldn’t ask questions about his last word. Instead, I came to a halt when three people in hazmat suits had guns pointed at us. “Freeze. Stay where you are and put your hands up.”
I froze as Warren snorted. He did as we were told, though, and the people in hazmat suits came closer. And closer. And closer. I looked to Warren, who actually had the nerve to yawn at a time like this. As soon as one of the guys reached for him, he twisted their arm until a sickening crack was heard and he dropped the gun.
Warren grabbed it before it could fall and aimed at the guy to the left. He shot a bullet into his chest. He wasted not even a second and turned to the other one and shot him as well. They both fell to the ground and I looked to Warren in horror. He flipped the gun in the air, grasping it gracefully by the handle when it fell back into his hand.
“Damn, it felt good to do that again,” He said, cocking the gun again.
“You just killed two people,” I said to him, open mouthed.
“Two?” He looked confused, and then saw the guy on the ground with the broken arm. “Oh. Missed one.” He aimed the gun at the guy’s chest and shot it a third time. It echoed and made me jump, just like the first two. “There.”
