The fearful look in the young beetle's eyes were enough to send the mantid into a frenzy of lust and drool as the chosen disciple cowered in fear.
What was she to do? Where was she to go? A whole kingdom of monsters lay behind her and the forest ahead held little promise of any escape. If only she had listened...If only the poor beetle could have foretold the disaster she had been chosen for, but... None of them could have expected this, could they? When the religious cavalry of mantid entered her town and chose her to be the next disciple her family was ecstatic with joy and love. This task could only be performed by the most holy, devout, and perfect of the beetles right? The one with burning fire in her veins, a heart wholly chosen by the sun, Ignis himself. Then why...why were they hunting her now? Why did they want to tear her apart?
What if she made it back? Would they even believe her? No....No one would dare except for one.
(Name) L/n, The young beetle was only but a pupa, nothing more and nothing less. She didn't understand the old teachings or the new faiths that aligned the Ladybird's and mantid together. She couldn't understand their symbiotic relationship, but that was a good thing. Mistrust them, don't fall into their league, for they will devour you if you get too close.
So when the mantid, with their clawed arms and five eyes came to take the older sister away she sobbed and begged and pleaded them not to. In time the older sister took her younger sister's begging to heart and used it as motivation to get back home. She quickly learned that it was not so glamorous being a chosen one on the holy night. To her, the mantid, while masquerading as calm and holy people, were really savages that would tear a beetle apart in a heart beat.
She had to keep running, run away before they brought her back to that accursed place. Their swords were out, hungry blades full of bloodlust and carnage. She had to keep thinking of her sister back home. The one who begged her to stay. A click erupted from her back, a desperate last ditch effort to get away. She prepared for flight, sure that she would make it out alive to see her sister again. Determination set within her, a gleaming hope upon her eyes.
Her head fell to the ground.
It was a bloody mess that still showed the determination even in her last few seconds of life. Ranen wiped the blood off his sword with the sleeves of his coat. The blade dyed a stinky yellow. He cringed slightly from the smell, but picked up the poor beetle's head anyway. His eyes followed his followers in a hollow stare as his mouth opened to reveal the multiple layers beneath. All for ripping and tearing the poor flesh of any unfortunate animal.
"Gentlemen, what a lovely night this has been." He petted the beetle's h/c head, caressing the locks as a lover would. "Let us hope for as bountiful a hunt as this next year."
With a turn of his steeled heel he turned and left the beetle's body to be picked up by whatever Scavenger rested at the end of the forest. His venomous smile could not be hidden as he took off, and flew for the kingdom.
