Onigiri

Onigiri is a quick snack to go. It is made as a light lunch or a fast breakfast for when you are late. It is another iconic anime dish that gives adds a warm texture to the atmosphere due to its quality as a comfort food. Onigiri can be stuffed with different fillings just like the takoyaki, but we will be focusing on the Salted Salmon Onigiri. 

Servings: 12 Onigiri

Prep Time: 30 mins

Cook Time: 30 mins

Total Time: 1 hour

Ingredients:

2 cups uncooked Japanese short grain rice

2½ cups Water

salt TT

4 sheets nori

 2 fillet salmon

Steps:

1. Gather ingredients

2. In a bowl, gently wash the rice and drain the water. (Repeat this step 3-4 times)

3. Soak the rice in water for 30 mins and them drain completely of water

4. Sprinkle salt onto both sides of the salmon fillet

5. Bake it at 400 degrees Celsius in an oven for 25 mins

6. Break apart the salmon into flakes and place it aside

7. In a pot combine the rice with the 2½ cups Water. Close the lid and bring it to a boil over medium heat

 8.Bring the heat to low and cook until water is completely absorbed (12-13 mins)

 9. Remove the pot from heat and let it steam for 10 mins. Then transfer the rice into a plate.

 10. Fluff the rice with a rice scooper, and let it sit until it is cool it enough to touch

11. Cut the nori sheets into thirds and wet both hands with water

12. Spread salt in your hands and scoop 1/3 cup of rice into your hands

13. Create an indentation into the rice and place the salmon flakes inside. Then mold your rice to cover the filling

14. Press the rice gently into your hands and then wrap the rice with nori

15.  Serve.
