-----TWO MONTHS LATER-----
I walked down the stairs beside William. I felt so happy because everything was absolutely perfect. I had a loving mother and father, sisters and brothers. Nothing was wrong because we were family.
"How'd you sleep William?" I asked.
"Just find sister" he replied.
"Oh dear I forgot something upstairs" William said as her ran back up the stairs. I started headind down. It was early in the morning and I believe most of the others were still sleeping. I heard ma and pa talking downstairs about something. 'I probably shouldn't, but-' I thought. I listened in onto their conversation.
"They're just not working out" Pa complained.
"I understand, but can't we keep that adorable little sweet thing? Uh- Raven?" Ma begged. I heard a loud slap and a shriek. Instantly I came running down, unable to help ma'self.
"Ma?" I asked. Her cheek was bright red and her eyes were quite watery.
"It's okay deary" she choked.
"You ma just isn't feeling well. She'll be just fine with her medicine" Pa said and he began yelling for Peggy to get out. Soon my brothers and sisters had seated themselves down at the table. My eyes widened at the sight of the juice in the glass cup.
"Yummy!" I giggled and gupled it down immediately. The others did the same and grinned like they'd won a gold medal. I giggled and hiccuped. After a quick lesson on being ladies which I passed in we hurried inside to practice knitting and sewing clothes for the winter. The wind howled outside, blowing cold wings, but here inside it was warm and cozy. Like earlier I heard Ma and Pa talking, but in sweet angelic tones. There was this voice in the back of my mind that I could never get rid of. 'Go and listen' I thought. I looked over at brother William. He was busy helping the other boys wash the fresh cotton and wool for us girls. He noticed my concerened expression and sent me a friendly smile.
"It's all good, nothing wrong" he said, obviously we all could hear Ma and Pa talkng. 'Go!' the voice in my head shouted at me. I couldn't resist it . The voice had been with me. It sounded so familiar, yet I never could figure out who it was. I crept towards the kitchen..
"Which ones are going?" asked Pa.
"Definetely William, Raven, Lily, Joan, David, and Samuel" Ma said with a harsh tone, "they're toooo weak" she said with a stuborn tone.
"Right" Pa agreed with her and added, "I start building the burner for them. We'll have some good old, live 'firewood' this winter" I frowned, what did he mean by "live firewood"? Realization hit me, but it made no since. Wer're going, burner for them, us, live living firewood.
My eyes widened in shock. US! WE WERE GOING INTO THE BURNER! I ran upstairs to the bedroom and layed in bed. I was scared, frightened. Tears rolled down my cheeks in heavy streams. Suddenly I heard the door creak open. It was Amynda. I hid my head under my pillow, so she hopefully wouldn't ignore the lump under the blankets. Probably the worst way to hide, but she didn't appear to notice me. Under my pillow there was something cold, and metalic. 'Phone' the little voice in my head whispered. I was hit with a sudden flashback. The phone, my diary, something important written in it, the brainwashing. My mouth hung open in a silent gasp. 'Brainwash' the voice in my head whispered. The buzzing in my head was gone and my mind was.... it was silent. Not a thought ran through my brain now that the buzzing was gone. I looked down at my hands.
"S-so bl-blank" I whispered to myself. The door slammed shut. I whiped my tears away and opened my phone which had accumulated a bit of dust.
Dear Diary,
I feel like I've just woken up from a dream. I don't know how long I've been out of it, but judging by the date on my phone and the last diary entry... Oh dear lord its been two month! They're going to kill us; William, Joan, Lily, David, Samuel, and I! I have to escape before then.
I finished writting because Woody was calling for us to come down.
"Yes Wo- pa" I stuttered, nearly calling him Woody. If I did for sure he or/and Elizabeth would beat me. I shuddered fearfuly.
"We're building a larger fireplace in the family room" he said, a wide grin on his face. My body went numb and cold. I gulped nervously and walked over to William who was pasting bricks with cement.
"William" I whispered.
"Yes sister?" he asked. His grey, hard, icy eyes looked at me blankly. Those eyes that had been cold, hard, and bitter blue were now emotionless grey eyes. My mouth hung open.
"I'm not your sister William. Don't you remember that?" I asked him.
"I don't understand you, come on we have work to do" he said.
"William, we're not safe here. We have to leave" I whispered with an urgent tone.
"Be quiet, your distracting me" he said and dropped the brick. He put his head between his hands and shook his head. I felt a weak hand on my arm. My eyes met Lily and Joan's blue eyes. They smiled at me.
"So your finaly awake" Lily whispered. I returned the smile. They'd been awake, they hadn't been brainwashed or not as easily as I had been. I looked back at William who was building the fireplace. Sadness filled me, and William was still asleep.
