Stone after stone, slab after slab of concrete in between, and the clank of the bricks being stacked upon one another. All of that was sickening. Woody and Elizabeth sat behind us on the couch watching the tv when a specific soudn caught my attention.
"and these are the parents of the missing-children" announced the barbie-like reporter. 'Way to much make-up' I thought and silently laughed at myself. I hadn't worn the tiniest smidge of eyeshadow in ages. The others looked at the screen and at the sad, grief-stricken, and some crying parents pictures. I looked at William, pleading with my mind for that he remembered. Those had-been blue, grey eyes stared at a couple on the top left corner.
"I don't know them" Amynda whispered with a mechanical, robotic tone.
"Neither do I" whispered Suzan. Bill and Bryce repeated the same before going back to work. It was as if they'd been trained to no long recognize these people. I looked back at William and he whispered,
"I'm not sure" before going back to working. A faint smile spread across my lips. Besides Samuel, David, Lily, and Joan I was glad he had some memory too. In roughly two to four hours Bill and Bryce had layed the last brick down. The new fireplace was massive. I gulped nervously and thought, 'Large enough for two bodies'
I then heared silent whimpers, Amynda was crying. I walked towards her and patted her shoulder. Instantly she recoiled and looked up with sad, afraid eyes. They were inocent, doe-like, bright chocolate brown eyes. I never noticed she had brown eyes. I had thought they were grey, but they had changed.
"What's the matter sweety" said Elizabeth. She walked towards us, arms outstretched. Amynda's mouth opened in a silent scream as Elizabeth hugged her. I found myself able to breath again once Woody and Elizabeth left the room; however, Amynda was in a state of panic. Something had broken through to her, and it was like she'd woken up from a bad dream. Lily and Joan were both comforting her, making her feel better and telling her it was okay.
"You kids can go outside if you like" Vicy and Joey popped into ther room. They carried two large bundles of wood. I was first to run outside. I had brilliant plan.
"Where are you going sister dear?" William asked me, he grabbed me by my wrist.
"No where, and I'm not your sister" I half lied, and snapped with a harsh tone. Still he didn't let go, so I pried his fingers off. I ran down the dirt driveway with the paper in my hand. I looked back at the houses address, and the scribbly letters I'd wrote down on the paper earlier. All I had to do was put it in the mailbox for the mailman who came every other day. He was coming tomorrow, and this was my best chance to send a message for help.
"What is that?" William demanded, his grey eyes cold and emotionless, yet they held curiousity. I slipped it into the mailbox and turned to face him.
"Your not supposed to do stuff without Ma and Pa's permission" he said with a mechanical tone
"They're not our Ma and Pa" I snapped viciously.
"You lie!" he cried out. Bill and Bryce looked up and made their way towards us.
"What's going on?" Bill demanded to know. I bit my lip nervously.
"Nothing" I lied. Bill however knew I was trying to decieve them. He picked me up by the front of my blouse and began to shake me.
"Tell me girl, or I'll beat you till you know more recognizable" he yelled at me. I was very dizzy know from the shaking. In my field of vision multi-colored slotches appeared. Reds and bright flashes that were making me even dizzier. I could feel my senses dulling.
"Hey! Let her go!" a boy yelled. There was a loud thwack and I felt myself hit the ground. I pushed myself up and spat out a mouthfull of dirt and looked up to see who had rescued me. Of course it took me a few seconds for my vision to go back to normal. Now I could see. Samuel and William both stood by my side.
"Are you okay?" David joined my side and picked me up. I nodded weakly, my head hurt but I was okay.
"That was a bold thing you did" Samuel said, he must have seen me put the letter in. I was about to respond when a mans, loud voice hollered from the house.
"Come on in kids, we eating by the fire tonight" Woody announced. I clutched my bowl of soup tightly as if it there was a chance of it being stolen. The fire in the fireplace burned high and hot. Lily, Joan, Amynda, Samuel, David, and I sat a good distance away. William, Vickey, Joey, Suzan, Bill, and Bryce sat close and unafraid. Woody and Elizabeth were muttering something amonst themselves.
"You know" Lily whispered, her eyes full of tears. I nodded.
"They built such a large burner for a reason" I whispered back.
"But why would they want to hurt us" Amynda whispered.
I snorthed, "because they're psyco" I answered her with a blank tone. Samuel and David patted her on the back comfortinly.
"I'm scared too" David whispered.
"It's going to be okay bro" Samuel told him. The three huddled together like a real family though they weren't related. I slurped up the remains of my soup earing me a harsh glare from Elizabeth. The fire was reflected in her glassy eyes and gave her a fierce, terrifying look of cruelty. I shrunk back.
"No need to be afriad deary" she told me, but that only made me feel more afraid. I felt a hand on my shoulder, Samuel. I felt reassured by his touch. I silently thanked him.
"Time for bed kids, we have an.... eventfull day tomorrow" Woody said, pausing in the middle of his sentece. My eyes widdened in fear. 'They were planning... well whatever they were going to do tomorrow? But I just sent my letter out!' I thought panicking. It would be by some luck or fate that the letter made it to the police or whoever it reaches in time. My hope was dim, small.
