UNEDITED

"What's with this crying fest, my child?" Her mother asked her perplexed, she had never seen her cry like this.

"Don't worry. I am not crying because I am sad or anything." She sniffled.

"Yeah right!" Her mother scoffed at her. While her father was simply observing her and trying to decipher her action.

"Don't give me that look mom. I am crying just because I am super angry and frustrated right now and you know that I cry only in these situations." She retorted wiping her tears and pulled back from her parent.

She stood back up and rested her hands on her hips and gave a hard look to her parents.

"Let's forget about me and talk about you."

"Talk what about us?" Her mother returned her look.

She tapped her forefinger on her chin as if deep thought.

"Hmm.... how about you, getting all chummy with that Devil Chauhan. As if all of you are some long lost relatives."

"Well, what do you expect us to do?"

"How about giving him a bit of cold shoulder; trying to show your protest against this so-called marriage. Oh! But no it would be too much to expect that from you." She let out her frustration.

She knew, what she was saying wasn't making any sense. But she needed an outlet for her frustration and her parents were the best option right now for her to do so. A few tears leaked out of her eyes because of utter frustration and helplessness that she was feeling.

"Sweetheart, come here." Her father stood up and opened his arms for her.

She rushed to him and they both hugged each other tightly.

"Are you feeling better now?" Her father asked softly after a while. She just nodded her head still not letting go of his warmth.

"Okay. That's good." He started rubbing her back soothingly.

"Now are you ready to tell us, what has made you so upset with us?" He asked her, knowing his daughter very well. That the reason behind her outburst has nothing to do with how they were treating Abhimanyu, he is the root cause but the reason is something else. She knew her father has caught on and won't rest until and unless she will tell him the entire story.

"I was mad at Devil Chauhan, then you guys came and were so friendly with each other. I don't know what happened after that to make me even more pissed off at every one." She whined like a baby.

"Hmm... you are still not telling the whole story. Come on out with it, I want to hear the entire version of it not the edited one." He nudged her.

"Why can't you just be satisfied with this version?" She muttered.

"Because I am your father and know you very well, it's not easy for you to get so riled up on such a petty issues. We might not have been hands on parents for you and I am truly sorry for that. But I know you. Come on." He patted her head emotionally. Her tears were hurting him.

"I had a fight with him just before you guys came; he wasn't letting me come to meet you guys. So, I was really mad at him and everyone, no one supported me, even for the sake of so-called tradition and ritual. Then you guys came and I couldn't even have a word with you guys alone. I tried so many times but it all went in vain. I don't know what happened I just got all crazy, I guess." She said sheepishly and pulled back from the hug, feeling a lot better now.

"Better now?" She just gave him an impish grin.

"Good, now so let me tell you why he didn't let you come at our place was because there was a threat for your life and he didn't want to take risk. So he called us up and asked us to join for lunch and dinner." He tried to explain.

"What threat? He's just bluffing so that I can be his total slave. Do you even know that he has set a rule that I have to take his permission before leaving the house? What is he, a king?" She said grumpily.

"Sweetheart, that's what I am trying to tell you. He has set this rule to safeguard you. Don't forget he's a business tycoon and have got many enemies. Since you are his wife now, you've become a soft target for them. So, please for all of our sake follow that rule." Her father pleaded.

"Well, he could have told me that, instead of acting like all macho man." She defended herself.

"Well let it go, it's done now. Let's forget about it and now you tell me how are you? Are they treating you fine so far? Well his aunt seemed a bit rude." Her mother cut in the father-daughter duo.

She giggled at her and said "Yes mom they are treating me just fine. Can't say much about the Devil Chauhan; he's in his limit so far. But Dadu is so sweet, I just love him. He is the one good thing that came out of this forced relationship."

Both her parents looked at her with satisfied smile.

"See it's not that bad."

"Not that bad?" Sanyukta exclaimed. "Do you want me to start about your beloved son-in-law again?"

"Okay. Okay. Fine. But promise me you won't do anything impulsively that you'll regret later in life." Her mother looked at her expectantly.

She just nodded her head and gave her a quick hug.

"Come on, mom, dad, let's go back to the mad fest. Or else they'll come looking for us,especially Sheila aunty." Three of them chuckled and moved out of the room to join all others for the so-called festivities held in her and his name. She still didn't know what to make of all this. Even though it is a forced-contractual marriage but looking at all the guests no one could say so. From his side it seemed like a regular marriage celebrated by the entire family. She decided she will think of this later on. For now she'll enjoy the time with her parents. Like a regular family.
