i came back

to see the lonely girl

who loves her pink notebook

which had unicorns and glitter and stars on the cover

but today, she isn't quite alone

next to her, in my usual spot, was an older girl, who was laughing with her

i approached them and smiled

"hello," i greeted.

the girl grinned at me.

"i remember you!" she grins proudly. she turned to the older girl with a proud smile on her face.

to my surprise, the older girl also wore a proud smile on her face.

"thank you," she said to me, "for improving her memory."

i was overcome with confusion, but smiled in return.

"happy to help," i smiled. i looked down at the box of chocolate cookies in my hands.

"i have plenty of chocolate cookies," i say. i extended my hands to them. "would you like some?"

the older girl smiled at me.

"no thanks," she says, and stands up. "i need to get going. goodbye."

she waved cheerily at me and her, before taking her purse and leaving.

the girl looked happy. i eyed her curiously.

"who was she?" i asked.

"my sister," she answered, smiling widely.

i returned the smile, before sitting with her and eating the cookies together.
