today i decided to take her out of the park

to get chocolate ice cream

chocolate is the reason both of us bonded

so it is tradition to get chocolate-everything

i went to meet her

but only saw her pink notebook with unicorns and glitter and stars

i looked around

and saw her weeping under a tree

i ran over to her and sat next to her

she continued to cry

"are you okay?" i asked

she glanced up at me with red eyes

and started sobbing harder

it hurt me to see her cry

i did the next thing i didn't expect myself to do

i hugged her

she looked surprised, but said nothing

"don't worry," i whisper gently into her ear and caressed her tangled black locks. "i'm here to give you comfort when you need it."

she stopped crying

and hugged me back

"thank you," she whispered back to me. "for being my friend, even though i sometimes keep forgetting about you."

"it's okay," i answered. "you still remember me."

she smiled and patted my own black hair, making my head tingle

"i still remember you," she says, "because you make me want to remember you."
