CHAPTER 25
JEAN POV
"Have fun on your date!" mom yells as I rush out from my room. It's because of mom that I'm late. Mom got so excited that she wants to butt into what I'm wearing, which accessories I should put on and choosing my shoes too. I put back everything in place although mom goes through the time rummaging my wardrobe.
I reach just a little 10 minutes late. Boon is standing in front of the restaurant.
"I'm so sorry," I apologize. He smiles in relief seeing me, straightening up his suit.
"Don't worry. I'm glad you made it. You look gorgeous"
"Thanks, you look handsome in your suit". I look down feeling my face heat up. I choose a simple black sleeveless dress than the purple one that mom chooses.
"Shall we?” I nod and Boon guide me into a private room filled with scented aroma, light turn dim, and soft music.
"Wow," I gap admiring the room. He's pretty romantic I must admit.
"Boon, you know you don't need to bring me to places like this. It's expensive," I whisper not wanting the waiter to hear us.
"A lady like you deserve them," Boon says gently place his hand on my back guiding me to my seat. My face heat up once again. I let Boon chooses the course as I'm the type of person who couldn't make decision very well especially there is too many tempting options. It is one of my weaknesses that I never like and I always hope I am a little more firm.
"What is it that you want to tell me?" I ask. Boon let out a cough as he looks away. "Why? You said it's important?" I ask again.
"I'll tell you after we eat".
"Okay". I look at Boon trying to figure out what he want to tell me. I'm too eager to know but decide not to budge.
"It's delicious!" I exclaim with my eyes wide open. The waiter standing next to Boon let out a small chuckle and gave each other a knowing look.
"I'm sorry". I scold myself for the humiliation.
"The chef would be very happy to hear that. I’ll call the chef out," the waiter says already walk out before I could stop him. I look at Boon helplessly.
"Don't worry. The chef would appreciate the complement very much. I'm sure the cook will be very happy," Boon assures. I smile thinking how King Ming and Shawn would be too if someone compliments their cooking. The waiter comes back with a man dress in white and black. I know immediately he's the chef. His foreign look tells me he must be from another country.
"I heard you enjoy the food," the chef says.
"Yes. It's really delicious," I compliment.
"Tell me about it,"
"I like how the prawn is cooked so that it still remains the freshness and tenderness. I assume you must have dip in quickly into hot water then soak them with ice water so there is tenderness in them. Then cooked them with assorted herbs and wines," I say.
"You are good miss. Mind if I serve you?” the chef asks. I nod and look at Boon who smiles in admiration. The chef gestures the waiter to bring another dish in, a heavenly Foie Gras, a French cuisine of duck liver cooked into a terrine, and is served with toasted brionche, a light bread made from eggs with hint of sweetness.
