Chapter 15

RILEY POV

Maya still wasn't home and I was getting worried she had left her bag and phone with me so I couldn't contact her, I was on face time to Farkle he was trying to calm me down

"Riley I'm sure Maya is fine she's smart she probably crashed at a hotel"

"With what money ?" I stated, nervously tapping my nails against the computer

"Okay well maybe she walked back and just stayed in another dorm since she didn't have her key" he was trying to be rational but I can't think rationally I'm too worried

"Maybe" I was sitting in the front room so I could see through the window when she came back

"Riley?" Farkle tried to get my attention

"She's here!" I yelled jumping up from my computer opening up the door

"Peaches!" I said pulling her into a hug

"I'm going to bed" she just walked past me and went straight into her room

"What was that about?" I went back to the computer

"I don't know but I'm going to find out, if I had to guess I would say Lucas" I hung up the call and walked into Maya's room she had the covers over her head so I sat at the bottom of her bed and pulled them off her face

"Spill" I said crossing my arms

"I don't want to talk Riles" she said turning over on her side looking away from me

"Maya Penelope Hart we don't keep secrets from each other"

"Hey don't middle name me" she said turning back around to face me

"it's Lucas" I thought so

"What happened? Is that where you were last night ?" I asked "Oh my god did you two ?" I winked jokingly

"Yeah I was at his and no definitely not he's my ex for a reason" She sighed and I felt bad for joking

"So why where you at his ?" She sat up and propped up pillows behind her

"Because I was drunk so he took me to his and let me stay there but nothing happened, he tried to get back together" She looked down at her hands and started fiddling with a bracelet on her wrist

"So did you ?" She shook her head

"No" She quickly answered

"I can't watch him hurt himself like that" she looked sad with tears welling in her eyes "I can't loose him Riles"

I pulled her in for a hug and we just sat like that for a while she kept crying. I wish I could help her feel better, she pulled away and wiped her eyes with some tissues she had by her bed

"Sorry Riles" She said sniffing

"Don't apologise Peaches, you can't help feeling sad you really like Lu-" I stopped myself saying his name "you really like him so you're going to be upset"

"You can say his name Riles" she said giving me a half smile that I know is fake

"Here's an idea why don't I get the ice cream from the freezer and we can just sit here together and watch some Netflix sound good ?"

"Perfect" she smiled

Meanwhile (Lucas POV)

My computer started ringing it was Farkle, I put on a shirt and clicked answer sitting down on my couch

"What the hell Friar?" He said as soon as I answered the call

"What ? What did I do ?" I was so confused

"Maya" He simply said

Is she okay?

"What about her" I nervously asked

"What happened last night why is she so upset" he said getting annoyed Farkle was very protective over Maya she was like his sister

"I just let her stay at mine because she was drunk, but nothing happened" I thought what I did was a nice thing for her why is everyone so pissed at me

"You still riding the bull?" He asked folding his arms

"Yes! Why does everyone keep asking me that"

"Because -" I cut him off

"It was rhetorical" I sighed "Is she really upset?" I don't want to hurt Maya, I care about her so much

"I haven't spoke to her since she came in but she wouldn't even speak to Riley she just walked to her room"

"I feel bad, I never wanted to hurt her"

"You know she cares about you and she doesn't want to see you get hurt like what happened a year ago" I ran my hand through my hair

"I know but I have to do this Farkle I thought you would understand knowing my reason behind it" He sighed and unfolded his arms

"I do understand Lucas it's just why risk dying" I didn't answer

"It's eight seconds, only eight Maya could be the rest of your life" He ended the call leaving me with my thoughts
