Inside the class were students everywhere sitting in a clump on the floor. There was barely any furniture except for a stack of papers in the middle of the room. The room was huge, almost as big as the main lobby of the Phoenix tower. The students looked confused as ever and didn't even notice me as I sat down on the floor next to a group of girls. "Where's the teacher?" a girl to my left whispered, looking at her friend. The girl just shrugged and continued on talking with a boy sitting next to her. I looked around the room and saw that in the corner was a desk that had barely anything on it except a shiny knife. One stone wall was covered with windows and candles covered the others.
Suddenly, the door burst open and a tall woman with her curly brown hair in a messy bun and red semi-circle glasses strutted in. She wore a red and black striped shirt with wide sleeves that went to the elbow and matching pants. "Velcome to control everyone. I am Miss Diana Dorgh-berhumm but you may call me if you must, Miss D. Today, we will start with ze basics. Vatch. Zer is a cup in ze front. Vith your pow-eres, you must do something, anything, with ze cup. Simple. Divide yourselves into 5 gr-roups in a single-file line. I vill be taking attend-dence and zen, check up on you. Listen for your name. Now, move along," Ms. D said, clapping her hand. I slowly trudged over to the main group of students Ms. D picked up a sheet and a quill from the middle of the room and began calling out names while closing the blinds with a wave of her hand, making the room pitch black.
"Arabelle Khotor!" She called, lighting a candle, "Zavid Montersoro!" She went around the room, lighting candles until the whole room was bathed in warm, yellow light. She kept calling names while we lined up. "Xavier Lewis Phi-llips!"
Uh oh. I looked over to one of the lines and saw a very familiar face with his usual smirk on his face. Not good at all. I gulped just as Ms. D called, "Christopher Baker!" Phew. I remembered that nice boy at the sorting ceremony. At least I would have someone to talk to since Blaine and Alex weren't there.
"Zat is all. Did I miss anyone? No? Fantastic! Now, are ve all good? Vonderful!" Zet's begin!" she exclaimed, "Now vatch." She swung her arm in a small circle in front of her and the wooden cup that had appeared in front of her slowly rose into the air. I could hear some gasps as she did this.
"Now, it is your turn," She said, gesturing to the cup. I watched a boy summon a cloud that struck the cup with a flash of lightning and burned a strand of Ms. D's hair. Lucky for the boy, she was too busy scolding another girl who has summoned a wave that splashed all over Ms. D's pants. As I looked around, everyone was in little control of their powers. Before I knew it, it was my turn. I was absolutely clueless. Never in my life had I realized I had powers, until just now, let alone use them. I stared at the cup and slowly closed my eyes. I closed my hands and concentrated on the feeling I had when I had stunned Xavier. Slowly, I felt the air disappear. I was feeling the power... then I lost it. I heard laughter and I opened my eyes to see that the cup was exactly where it was before. Completely untouched. I heard a snort beside me. Xavier. Of course, he had to be in here. Why? Standing next to him was Christopher, his hand covering his mouth. his blonde hair was ruffled and his eyes sparkled. He looks gorg- Stop it Sam. He's your friend. I looked around to see everyone trying their best not to laugh.
"Vat happened?!" Ms. D shrieked, coming into the room, "I leave ze room for vone minute to get paper towels and everyone is distracted? Get back to work! And you!" She pointed at me, stomping over.
As I was dragged over to a corner of the class, I begged for mercy, "I didn't do anything. I was just trying to use my powers but everyone started laughing at me!"
