YOU WERE EXHAUSTED, dried tears staining your face, your throat sore from yelling too much. Jake didn't look much different, except that his hair was definitely messier than yours as he kept running his hands through it out of frustration.

"You knew how hard it would be. The moment we started dating, you knew that I wasn't always going to be around." His voice was still strong because he hadn't been crying as much as you.

"But I expected you to still be you when you came back home." You lowered your voice, your eyes still throwing daggers at him. He furrowed his eyebrows at you, slightly cocking his head to the side.

"And what's that supposed to mean?" Jake had his eyes narrowed at you, he looked pissed off and you knew he was offended. But you didn't care. Not at the moment.

"You changed. You don't look at me the same, you barely even touch me anymore." You blurted out, the real reason you started the fight finally coming to the light and you could see he had realized that. "You've grown bored of me, is that it, Jake? You saw so many pretty girls and all of them wanted you, so why bother with me anymore, right?"

"What are you–" He tried, his eyes now softening into a sad look but you didn't let him finish.

"No, no. You barely talked to me since you got back, so you don't get to do it now." You pointed at his face, your words now cutting him deeper than anyone else's ever could. "At first, I thought you were just tired and I let it go. But then it got worse and I'm honestly so fucking tired of making up excuses for you in my head, Jake." You sniffled, your anger returning to sadness as the tears flooded your eyes once again.

"I'm so sorry, but this isn't fair. You never spoke to me about any of this." He shook his head, lowering his gaze as he couldn't stand the sight of you being this sad because of him.

"Fair?!" You scoffed, drying your tears with your hand. "Nothing about this is fair. And you're supposed to be my boyfriend, aren't you? You're supposed to realize when something's wrong." You paused, waiting for him to look at you and he did. "And something's been wrong for a long, long time."

"Then let me make this right, baby. I swear I'll do anything to fix it all." He begged while reaching out for your hand, but you flinched away. Jake frowned, his eyes telling you so much more than words ever could.

"I don't know, Jake." Your voice was weak and every word came out barely above a whisper. "Do you even love me anymore?"

Jake looked taken back, his eyes widening in horror because he couldn't believe you'd ever doubt that. "What are you talking about? Of course, I do." He finally got a hold of your hands, holding them tightly in his rougher ones. "You're my everything, my love, the only one for me. And I love you with every breath I take." You could tell he meant that, but you were still scared those words would end up being just that. Words.

"Isn't this over?" Your eyes filled in tears just at the thought of that. You loved Jake with your whole heart, he was your best friend, your first love. But still, you didn't want to keep having a one-sided relationship.

"Don't say that, please." He whispered back, resting his forehead on yours as he wrapped his arms around you. You could feel his heart beating fast and that alone warmed your own. "I don't know what I am without you. I don't want to lose you."

"Jake..." He pulled back to look at you, the tears now forming in his brown eyes too.

"Please, give me one more chance. Just one." He sniffled. "You're the best thing that ever happened to me. Let me make this right, please. Just one more chance."

You were torn but you loved him. You loved him so much you forgave him when he first apologized. You couldn't deny you were scared, but you also couldn't deny how honest his eyes looked right now. How you could see the fear and the love mixed with the tears. And that was it, that was enough for you to realize maybe your relationship wasn't too far gone. You weren't completely lost yet, you still had your chance.

With a smile, you finally gave him an answer. "Let's make it right then, babe."
