"Truth or dare, Frank?" Asked one of Jorden's friend, Hayley, as we sat around in a circle on the field.
It's a full house today, we're all here: Jorden, Hayley, Ashley, Brian, Rob and I.
And the reason that we weren't hanging by the dumpsters today was because that today one of the last days that would be this sunny before the bitter autumn wind sweeps away all the heat and the clouds start to cover up the light. It was my idea, and no one seemed willing to change sceneries until Jorden said that it was a good idea.
When I say anything, I'm ignored. But when Jorden suggests the same thing, they all go with it. I can't tell if I'm mad at the rest of them for completely disregarding everything thing I say or if I'm mad at Jorden for having more control over them than I do...
Maybe that's why he always repeats what I say, because he knows they'll do it if he does. They put Jorden up on this weird pedestal in this friend-group. They all admire him in a weird way, like they all have this crush on him that they've repressed for seemingly years. I mean, honestly, so do I. But I still have friendly little arguments with him, here and there.
"Dare." I answered back, wiggling my eyebrows. Everyone has been only picking out 'truth' and I wanted to spice things up a little.
Hayley stared up at the sky and sighed, thinking of a dare for me. I pulled the grass beneath me before I heard her giggle all of a sudden. She sat up straight and whispered in Ashley's ear. Ashley giggled too and nodded her head.
Oh no, they're going to ask me to do something totally embarrassing and stupid, aren't they?
"I dare you to kiss Jorden." She pointed over to Jorden who stood too far away from us to hear our conversation as he smoked a cigarette against a wall.
This is not how I wanted to spice things up. Not at all.
And now Brian and Rob are sniggering at me. They're always a lot meaner when Jorden isn't here to tell them otherwise. I should probably do something about that...
"What? No. I'm not doing that." I scratched my nose too harshly and I felt my cheeks turn hot. "I change my mind, I pick truth." I told her.
"You can't back out now Frank, you've already picked it. And if you don't do it, then you'll be considered a pussy for the rest of our time here in prison." Snarled Brian as Rob made kisses sounds with his mouth, puckering up as well.
"No," I turned from Hayley to Brian, still refusing to just walk up to Jorden and press his lips against mine with no explanation. "If I don't do it, then I won't be making Jorden uncomfortable. Besides, has anyone ever kissed you when you didn't want them to? That shit fucks you up."
Like, for real, has no one here ever ask for consent before? Do they even know what consent is?
"Then ask him if he'll let you," Hayley suggested, trying to seem more innocent than we all know she is. "If he does, do it. If not, come back here and I'll pick out a truth for you."
I raised an eyebrow at her. "You makin' a deal with the devil, Hayley?"
"I guess I am." She chuckled.
"Fine, but if I end up doing the dare, I pick one out for you too. How about that?"
Hayley considered my offer for a few seconds too long, like she was considering taking it all back and letting me do anything other than what she had suggested.
