Cameras, flashing lights. Disco balls and ping-pong balls in the punch that is most likely spiked with alcohol, as the kids who stood around the catering table, also dressed as penguins and unfashionable cupcakes swayed back and forth and had no clue as to what personal space is.
There was a small group of people huddled towards the end of the table, I realized upon closer inspection that it was Jorden's old friends. And this time, Hayley is in the center of the circle.
She looks good tonight, I can't lie. Her blonde curled hair flipped over to one side of her shoulder and her strapless turquoise dress with a black sash around the middle looked good on her. But I can't admit that aloud. I caught her eyes and her face immediately hardened. She stopped laughing just to glare at me. I nodded upwards in her direction, acknowledging her, and led my dates far away from them and towards the DJ and his speakers.
I could feel my heart try to go with the beat of the music, before I realized that it was the music was trying to catch up with my heartbeats. It was going quite fast.
"What was up with you and that kid-bouncer?" Jamia yelled as she played with her necklace.
"I wanted to thank him."
"For what? Tricking you into coming?" Jorden asked sarcastically with his mouth full of food. He must've swiped some at the catering table. I hope he didn't see them.
"No... For giving me the chance to party with the greatest people in the world."
"When're they getting here?"
Jamia smacked Jorden and he smirked in response. "Frankie was trying to give us a compliment, Jorden!"
"I ain't the greatest person in the world..." He muttered. The lights reflected in his amber eyes and he flashed me a devilish grin. "But I will be! Watch this!"
Jamia and I watched as Jorden skipped up to the DJ and started to sweet-talk him. I know he was doing that because his eyes and body language were the same whenever he did that with me. A string seemed to pull on my heart, but I didn't pay attention to it. We had a deal. One last time, so we could move on.
That doesn't mean it hurt any less.
Good thing is, DJ seemed to like Jorden as well and did as he asked. The music changed and my heart leapt.
It was the only rock song I showed Jorden that he seemed to like.
Jamia and I exchanged looks and she held her hand out to me. I took it and she led me to the middle of the dance floor, where everybody could see us. We danced and sang with all our hearts.

Her name is Noel,
I have a dream about her-
She rings my bell.
I've got gym class in half an hour.
Oh, how she rocks,
In Keds and tube socks.
But she doesn't know who I am.
