I couldn't believe how fast these weeks were passing by. It was already close to the end of August and my birthday was around the corner. I was now looking at the positive things in life, and I was doing a lot better compared to the weeks before.

I haven't heard from Khalil and it was honestly helping me focus and move on from him. I also received my Brokers License last week and I was already running into trouble at my new company. My boss refused to give me a raise since I had the potential to earn additional commission on properties. He also claimed that I had an unfair advantage over my coworkers so I had to scale back on hours now. So as you could guess, I'd already started my job search for a better position.

The girls and I were meeting for lunch today so we could continue planning for the birthday party Isabel and I were throwing. We were one week apart so we typically combined birthday celebrations every year.

I walked into the Grand Lux Cafe and found Isabel and Geia sitting down at a table towards the back. I excitedly made my way over to them, then took a seat across from them. My stomach started to rumble at the sight of bread and muffins sitting at the table. My mind was telling me to screw my diet and eat all of the muffins before Yvette got here. That woman always had a habit of packing up the majority of the leftovers, including the condiments and she stuffed them inside of her obnoxiously large purse.

"Hey girl, it took you long enough. Why are you and Yvette always late to everything?" Isabel asked while shaking her head.

I took my first muffin and piece of bread and ate it in a couple of bites. Geia looked up from her phone and flashed me a shocked expression. I brushed her off and continued to grab more.

"I'm always late because I have to look on point. I lost fifteen pounds so my clothes are loose on me now, a girl had to improvise." I said while buttering up my piece of bread.

The waitress hurriedly rushed over and handed us our waters, and the drinks that they ordered. I decided against drinking any alcohol or sugary drinks so I could maintain my new size.

"Are you ladies ready to order?" The waitress sweetly asked while tapping around on her iPad.

We all shook our heads in unison so she could get our orders in to the kitchen as soon as possible. After we ordered, she collected all of our menus and rushed off into the kitchen. As usual, that's when Yvette finally decided to show up and bless us with her presence. We waved her down, and we watched in annoyance as she took her sweet time walking over to our table.

"Hey ladies, don't yell at me for being late today. I actually have a valid reason for it!" Yvette said while taking a seat next to me and eyeing the muffins.

"Let's not make a habit out of it, shall we? Oh wait, too late." Geia said while turning her phone off and setting it down on the table.

Isabel chuckled and nodded her head in agreement. I rolled my eyes at their digs, then took my last piece of bread. I was on a strict diet, and this was my cheat meal so I was going to enjoy this. The waitress came back to our table to take Yvette's order, and to refill the bread basket and our drinks.

"I'm always late so I can spend less time with you annoying ass heifers." Yvette said while ferociously patting the top of her head to prevent her from scratching it.

I chuckled and rolled my eyes at her rude comment. I couldn't speak up on this one since I was always late myself. But I was curious about what she was doing prior to coming here with us.

"So what was your valid reason for being late today?" Isabel asked in an irritated tone.

"Both are good news in my eyes. But the first thing is, I sort of mentioned to Bryson that Courtney just got her Brokers License and he's interested in hiring you. And he wants to meet with you later!" Yvette said while buttering up her blueberry muffin and taking a large bite.

Not only was I completely shocked at what I just heard, but I also wasn't exactly sure how to feel about this. For starters, I wished that I was included in their conversation, and secondly, I was nervous about seeing Bryson. I was definitely grateful that Yvette was looking out for me, but maybe I should avoid Bryson completely. My mind began to play an indecisive game of tug of war, and I couldn't help but feel like this was my sign from God. I finally had an opportunity at finding a better position at his finance company, and I could actually make better connections.

"And the other news is—." Yvette started to say but was interrupted by Geia.

"Wait hold up! Jog my memory and tell me who the hell is Bryson? And most importantly, girl is he fine?" Geia excitedly asked while leaning forward in her seat.

I knew that I had no right to act jealous over Bryson, especially since I'd declined his dinner invitation a couple of weeks ago. And not to mention, I made it clear that all I wanted was to be single for the time being. So If I already established all of this with myself and others, then why couldn't I help but feel enraged? Just the mental image of Geia trying to flirt with him made my cheeks flair up with anger, and I unconsciously gave her a death glare.

"Bryson is one of the business owners at the office I work at, and he has a big crush on Courtney, but she keeps swerving his fine ass." Yvette said while flashing me a look of disbelief.

"So if he's into you, why not go for him? He's offering you a good job and some better benefits if you know what I mean." Isabel said while sticking her tongue out at me.

I turned away from them and pretended to answer important text messages on my phone. I didn't want to overthink this meeting with Bryson, but damn that man was so fine to me.

"Well if she's not interested, then I am." Geia said while patting her afro puff that was pulled into a high ponytail.

I couldn't help but look up from my phone and give her another death glare. This chick was always skipping around with men, but I'll be damned if she gets this one. Geia must've noticed my glare because she averted her gaze and started up a new conversation.

"So what's the other news you have to tell us?" Geia asked while sipping her drink and twirling one of her curly strands.

Yvette took a deep breath then looked around at us nervously. I knew that she was about to say something crazy and outrageous like usual. I turned my entire body to look at her so she could see how serious I wanted to know.

"Guys I'm pregnant with Tyler's baby."

I swear all of our jaws dropped to the floor at the exact same time. I'm sure that my current facial expression was beyond surprised. We were all quiet for a second before Isabel got up and pulled Yvette into a bear hug and started congratulating her. I honestly didn't know how to react to the news, of course, I was happy for her, but I felt like she deserved better than Tyler. I snapped out of my thoughts, then began to congratulate her along with the other girls.

Once when we were done asking her a thousand questions and congratulating her, the server came out with our food and immediately dropped the check-off, before leaving. We discussed the meeting with Bryson later on, and baby names and the gender of Yvette's baby.

I couldn't help but secretly wish that everything works out in our favor because something unexpected always puts us back to where we first started.
