Logan's house is nice. It's warm inside, and it has a weirdly nostalgic smell to it. Maybe it just smells like cat. I wouldn't know, I've never had a pet. Owen sits down on the couch, and pats on the pillow beside him. I sit down next to him.
"Here you go" he says, and he puts the small black kitten on my lap. I smile widely, and scratch her on her little head. She purrs a little.
"So, what's Logan like at school?" Owen asks curiously.
"Oh, he's pretty cool. He mostly talks to Willow, really" I say.
"Ah, yes. His girlfriend. What are they like?" he asks.
"They're happy together, I think. They're not really affectionate in public a lot".
"Ah, typical. He doesn't like talking about her. Every time I ask about her, he gets all red and starts mumbling. Such a dork".I look at Owen, mindlessly scratching Lucy's little head. He's got a small smile on his face, and shakes his head lightly.
"So, you're friends?" he suddenly asks. "I don't think I've really heard your name before".
"Well, I'm closer to Willow actually. But we talk sometimes and I think he's really nice" I say. He nods slowly.
"Alright. You know, you don't seem like the type of person Logan would want to hang out with".I look at him, and frown.
"Why not?" I ask, a little hurt. Doesn't Logan like hanging out with me?
"Well, you look pretty athletic, and you seem very sociable" he says, not really explaining anything.
"Thank you" I smile. "But I still don't get it".
"Logan would probably be all sceptical and think you're an asshole right off the bat without getting to know you" he explains.
"That's not very nice Owen".
"He's my little brother, I'm allowed to do that".There's a sound of keys in the lock, and two people come in. Logan, and a short woman. It's probably his mom.
"Hey Owen! Oh, hello" the woman says, looking at me.
"Landon?"
Logan looks at me, frowning.
"What are you doing here?"
"I found your cat!"
He frowns, and looks at me.
"Found her where?"
"In the bushes on the pavement, she..."I look next to me, and Owen has his eyes closed and is biting his lip.
"Why was Lucy outside Owen?" Logan asks, a certain coldness in his voice. "You know she's not allowed to go outside".
Owen opens his eyes, and looks at me.
"Sorry" I mutter, embarrassed. I never meant to make him feel bad...
"Can't I trust you to watch her for one morning? I can't believe you! You know what happened last time..."
Logan closes his eyes, sighs, and turns to me.
"Thanks for finding her Landon, I owe you one" he says, sitting down next to me. Lucy looks up, and jumps onto Logan's lap.
"No problem! She's so adorable! Anyway, I saw a puppy and a kitten within twenty-four hours so it was worth it" I say. He chuckles, and pets the kitten on his lap."Owen, have you thought of anything for that contest yet?" their mom asks.
"Contest?" I ask. Owen sighs.
"There's this contest where you can win a guitar, and I really want to win it, but you need to do something nice for someone and the nicest person wins. I have no idea what I can do..."
"You could teach someone how to play" I interrupt. "You know, someone who wants to learn how to play guitar".He looks at me, and raises an eyebrow.
"That's not a terrible idea... But I need to find someone..."
"Me! I could do it! You could teach me!" I yell excitedly. He closes his mouth, and then laughs.
"Alright, alright. I could teach you. Do you already have a guitar?"
I shake my head.
"My mom said she'll buy me one once I've found someone who will teach me. I could call my mom right now...""That won't be necessary" he chuckles. "But if you give me her phone number we could make some appointments. Just put us all in a group chat".
We chat some more, and decide than once I've gotten a guitar, we can start talking about what kinds of lessons I'll get, and when, and where. All the while, Logan is looking at us, squinting his eyes a little.
"So, that's settled then?" Owen asks, and he raises his hand. I shake it, and smile.
"It is. I'm so excited! I'm going to play so many songs and I'll...""Is he always this excited?" Owen asks Logan. Logan nods.
"Yeah, I've never seen him upset, I think. Then again, I haven't been at this school very long, so I wouldn't know".
I grin, and shrug.
"I try not to let things keep me down. Such a waste of time when you could also just enjoy good things that come your way".
"You're a mystery to me Landon" Logan sighs. "To all of us".When I come home, I can already smell dinner. It smells like pizza, which makes me very happy. Happier than I already am.
"I'm home!" I yell, walking inside the living room. "Mom! I found someone who can teach me guitar! He'll teach me for just ten dollars per lesson and he's also the brother of my friend Logan, and he has a kitten so I'll always be excited to go..."
"That's great honey" my mom says, a bit absent. I have the idea she doesn't always listen to me when I ramble about my day. I don't really mind though, it just feels nice to be able to tell her."So, when are we going to buy me a guitar?" I ask. She looks up.
"I was thinking we could go to the city center this Monday. You need new shoes too".
"Okay!"
I run upstairs. It'll take a while before the pizza is done. Winter is sitting in her room, playing the ukulele.
"Guess what?" I ask, looking around the corner. She looks up.
"What?"
"I'm getting a guitar".
She smiles.
"That's great Landon!"I walk to my own room, and sit down on my bed. I post a message on Molton page about my upcoming new instrument, and smile when I see supportive replies from Willow and Alex. It's going to be amazing.
