Gene watched Paul walk Alex out.

"Gene are you coming to breakfast?"

Paul stopped and turned his head toward him.

"Huh? Oh. Sure."

Alex turned her head slightly and glanced at Gene. He couldn't take his eyes off of her, the pain in those blue eyes killed him. He stood up and followed them out, leaving the alcohol soaked carpet for the maids. They did however clean up the glass that was shattered all over the floor.

"Did you two have fun last night?"

Paul looked at Alex, waiting for her to answer.

"Mhm. We had a good time."

Her voice was no longer chipper or playful. She spoke in a calm manner.

"Are you alright Lex?"

Alex looked up at Paul and smiled.

"Yeah, I'm alright, I just didn't sleep all that well."

They all walked into the dining room of the hotel and sat down at the large booth Ace and Peter had picked out. Alex sat between Ace and Paul, Gene across from them and Peter next to Gene. Gene was having a hard time keeping his eyes away from Alex. He couldn't help it, he just wanted to see that gleam in her eyes when she looked at him again. But everytime she looked up at him, her eyes said nothing and her emotions were hard to read. Alex reached down and pet her dog, she felt bad that he was hardly with her anymore and it probably wasn't a good idea to be separated from him. But he was in good hands when with any of these men. Paul had brought him down when he went for breakfast. She was very thankful that these men treated her dog with as much respect as a human being.

"Good boy."

Alex said it under her breath. He licked her hand and laid back down at her feet.

"Fuck Gene you smell like shit and liquor."

Peter leaned away from him. That drew the attention of Ace and Paul. They both knew that Gene didn't drink, ever. Paul knew that more than anyone, he gave Gene a confused and concerned look.

"Shut the fuck up Peter. No one asked for your fucking opinion."

Gene shoved his finger in Peter's face violently and angrily. His voice rose as he spoke and he became choked up. He was absolutely crushed inside, not only because he lost the woman he cared for, but because he resorted to alcohol for comfort. He knew his mother would be disappointed if she saw him in such a state. Hell, he even hated for Alex to see him this way. But what was the point now? He could never have her again with his actions from earlier. He pulled his hand back and rested it hand on the table.

"Gene, are you alright?"

Paul's voice was laced with concern for Gene.

"Peachy."

Paul flinched at the sarcasm in Gene's voice. Something had happened and he knew it had to involve Alex. She was upset as well and doing a terrible job at hiding it.

"Can I talk to you for a minute?"

Paul rested his hand on Alex's shoulder. She looked over at him and nodded.

"Sure."

She grabbed Demon's leash and followed Paul to a hallway away from the rest.

"What's up?"

"What's going on with you and Gene? There's no way it's a coincidence that he's trashed and you're upset. There has to be something going on."

Alex sighed.
