Chapter 5

“Hey Peyton” He says quietly closing the door. I quickly get up off the couch as he approaches me.

“Hey August”

“Hey…” He leans against the closed door and looks down at his feet.

“Umm… what’s up?” I ask, allowing the confusion to be heard through my voice.  He looks up suddenly and looks straight into my eyes before he smiles, allowing me to see something I haven’t noticed before. He has dimples. How cute. And allowing me to notice how close he was to me- whenever that happened…

“We’re going to get coffee. You and I- Right now.” He smiles slightly taking in my astonished face. I can’t think of anything to say so of course what I do say is completely stupid.

“I… uhh… I’m not dressed appropriately…” I stammer.

“Not to worry, Peyton! I brought other clothes. They are over there on the rack. I figured you would want to leave in your dress” Caroline says. I give her a confused look, considering I didn’t even know she was in the room.

“Perfect” He murmurs.  “I’ll be waiting outside the door in the hallway while you change.. . Although it is really a shame you are changing…” He whispers. His eyes move from my face down my body, and back up to my eyes. He winks at me before he leaves the room. Once he is gone Caroline comes over to me ecstatic.

“Go ahead, thank me now” She walks over to the rack of clothes and when she finally finds something she throws them at me. “Here, now change. That boy is waiting for you.” She hugs me and walks out of the room. I’m still standing here after she leaves, just shell shocked. I’m going on a coffee date with August Turner. Okay, I can do this. It’s not like I literally loved him when I was 10. No big deal. I can do this.

I look at what Caroline gave me and I’m relieved. She packed a pair of dark jeans, brown sandals, a flower strapless top, my brown bracelet, and a bead necklace. Conveniently, I brought my cream clutch with me. So everything  fit perfectly.

I quickly washed off my red eye shadow and replaced it with a subtle shade of brown. I took down my hair and just let it fall into place. I grab the door knob and take a deep breath before I slowly turn it and step out into the hallway.

I look down both side of the hallway but there’s no sign of August. I knew it. It was a joke. Whatever. I start walking down the hallway towards the doors when suddenly I feel arms around my waist.

“Trying to ditch me, yea?” He whispers in my ear. His breath tickles my neck and sends shivers down my body. Once again I’m at a loss for words. But I quickly pull myself together and turn around to face him.

“Well since you were all M.I.A, I decided to leave…”

“I was in the restroom… I guess it’s not all bad you changed. This is a nice substitute” He says while clearly checking me out.  It’s not until now that I realize his arms are still around my waist. I scoff and pull away from him. “Let’s just go get our coffee. I’m really thirsty…” I don’t see if he follows, I just walk out the doors toward the Coffee house.

Seconds later August appears at my side. We don’t say anything the whole way to Java Jolt. We get there and order our coffees, then find a table.

“You’re singing was absolutely fantastic tonight” he says in his adorable accent. “And I must say, you’re dress was exquisite” he says as he flashes a smile. I can’t help but blush and look down at my coffee. I grab the straw and begin to slowly stir my coffee.
