It’s pretty crazy how fast your life can change. In one moment you’re 5 years old, taking dance lessons at your aunt’s studio. Near Christmas time, you stand at the gigantic window by your house in the snow, wanting nothing more in the whole wide world than that new 4 story Barbie doll house with elevators and working lights. Who knew in a few weeks, your big wish would completely change for the worse. As it turns out, Life’s pretty crazy.
As Holly does my makeup I feel tears stinging my eyes. One escapes and runs down my cheek, smearing the makeup.
“Hunny! What’s the matter!?” exclaims Holly
“It’s nothing. Really Holly, I’m fine.” I quickly wiped the tear away and stared back at the mirror watching as Holly slowly understood I wasn’t going to tell her and went back to work on my hair. The one thing I like about Holly is how she so understands.
Once Holly finishes my hair, and touches up my makeup, she rushes me over to the rack of clothes and dresses me in dark skinny jeans with a white blouse, and a maroon scarf, complete with cream colored high heels and a bag to match.
“There. You look beautiful. Thanks to me of course” Says Holly, winking. I chuckle even though I don’t find it very amusing. Ever since I started thinking, I have become depressed.
“Thanks, Holly. I love it. I just hope my collection does well.” I hugged her and hurried onto the set. I had an upcoming fashion line just in time for fall. It was called the Fall into Love Collection by Peyton Raine. I just hoped I could get through the photo shoot.
I felt like I was numb the entire shoot. Like I wasn’t even there, mentally. I feel physically drained. After I leave the shoot Caroline tells me I am allowed to keep the outfit since I designed it. I thank her and ask if I can walk myself home, instead of taking the limo.
“I don’t know, Peyton. Are you sure you’re okay. You look sick. You’re really pale..”
“Yea, Caroline. I’m fine, I swear. I just want some fresh air.”
“Well… okay. But you be careful, Peyton. And call me once you get home, and wear sunglasses so no one recognizes you.”
“Okay, okay. Thanks, Caroline.” I walk past her and grab my coat. When I step outside I immediately feel the cold breeze, sending chills down my spine. But, it feels nice. I start walking in any direction my feet will take me, with no intention of going home.
Ice cream always makes you feel better when you’re sad. I love ice cream. The cold dessert seems to melt away all of your troubles. Ice cream is rich, creamy, and hands down the best dessert for sadness; luckily there was one right around the corner.
I walk into Frozen Pleasures and immediately I see someone I recognize. As he is getting up with his bowl of ice cream I run over to him and hug him tight.
“Nathan! I’m so glad to see you, I’ve missed you SO much!” I exclaim. He puts down his bowl and wraps his arms around me. It’s not until now, I realize how much I have missed the familiar scent of his cologne and his amazing hugs. He really does give the best hugs. After a few minutes I unwrap my arms and look up at him.
“Peyton. It’s so amazing to see you! I haven’t seen you, in what? Like 3 years? You haven’t changed a bit”
“Thanks, Nathan. Yea, it’s good to see you too. How’s Jenny?” Jenny is Nathan’s girlfriend. When I left for California, they had already been dating for 2 years. I hope she is here with him, I’m dying to see her. “And you don’t look like you’ve changed a bit at all either!” It was true. He was still tall, brown hair, medium length, brown/ green eyes.
