The first day of school was... different.
It wasn't really the first day either. It was Bella and Maggie's first day in a school that was halfway through the semester already. The school courtyard was crowded with kids as they walked to and from class. Maggie and Bella stuck out like sore thumbs.
Bella had spiked a volleyball at a basketball player's head and Maggie couldn't get this one guy named Eric to leave her alone. The weather was cold and rainy and because it was the middle of February in the Pacfic Northwest, the asphalt was slick with ice. Almost everyone walking back to their cars was flailing their arms to balance themselves. So far, their experience in Forks has been less than stellar.
After the dismissal bell, Maggie met her sister at the school's front door.
"This sucks." Bella mumbled. Shrugging on her backpack as the girls headed to Bella's truck after school.
"We will be alright." She tried to cheer up her sister but Bella's pessimistic attitude was almost as stubborn as she was.
"Do I smell?" Bella asked, earning a very concerned look from Maggie.
"Uh, what?" Maggie asked.
"This guy I sat next to had this face of disgust while I sat next to him, like I smelled gross." Bell said, sniffing her hair again.
"Don't be riduclous, you smell fine. Would you mind driving me downtown? I want to check out some paint." Maggie asked her big sister.
"That's so far away." Bella moaned unhappily.
"Man, I wish I could drive." Maggie rolled her eyes and sighed.
Before Bella could reply, a car that fishtailed along the slippery black top made it's way towards the Swan girls. Bella pushed her sister behind her and ducked down quick for the impact, too late and too close to move out of the way.
But the car never collided with them.
Instead, when Maggie opened her eyes, she saw Bella making hard eye contact with a man who had stopped the truck with his arm. It left a heavy dent in the car.
"What the-"
The boy was gone quick and left the two girls being swarmed by onlookers, asking if they were okay. Maggie attempted to look past the crowd for the stranger but to no avail. Her attention was quickly grabbed when a blonde hair boy placed his hand on her shoulder. She looked to him, he was taking his leatherman jacket off and placing it over her shoulders. He helped her up and over the hood of the two cars and checked her for scratches.
"I'm so, so sorry! Something happened with my car and I couldn't stop and had no traction either. God, I'm so sorry!" The boy rambled.
"I'm okay, I'm okay." Maggie said, mostly to herself. She whipped her brown hair around as she looked for the stranger. Bella hoped out with the help of the boy as well.
"You don't have any cuts on you, that's amazing." The boy said in disbelief. Maggie looked at him and said, "I don't know how. We weren't even hit."
"Fuck," he rushed his fingers through his hair when the school bell rang. Everyone dispersed except for Maggie, Bella, and the boy.
"My dad is going to kill me." He said.
"You're lucky you didn't kill us." Bella bit when she walked around the car.
"Calm down, Bella, it was an accident." Maggie cautioned, putting a hand on her shoulder.
"It was. I don't know what happened, but my car stopped being a-a a car. And look at that huge dent!" He exclaimed, walking to his car. There was a huge dent but neither girl made it..
