Jacob stayed for dinner with Bella, Charlie, and Maggie. Maggie couldn't keep her mind off of what had happened just a little bit ago with Edward and was surprised that he had left so soon. She was even more surprised that Bella had came downstairs too. The four of them talked about their day over a bucket of chicken from KFC, but Maggie was too lost in her thoughts to keep up with the conversation.

Jacob could see Maggie's mind running a mile a minute and felt bad for her. She reacted calmly to Edward and his news but knew that her mind was an explosion of f-bombs.

Maggie was worried for her sister, for Jacob, for Charlie, for everyone that she knew. Vampires were in town. They could be putting on a whole facade and no body would know. They could slaughter the entire town by morning.

"Mags?" Charlie's voice boomed from across the table. It snapped her from her thoughts as all eyes were on here. Bella and Jacob knew what was going on but to Charlie, she was just out of it. "Are you feeling okay? You look a little pale."

"Oh, uh," Maggie sat up and wiped her hands on the napkin. "Yeah, Dad. Just tired. That's all."

"Busy day painting? How much did you get done?" He asked, reaching for another thigh piece.

"About a wall and a half." Jacob rescued Maggie, giving her leg a reassuring pat under the table.

"That's it? What did you do all day?" Charlie asked, licking his thumbs.

"Taping the walls and outlets, covering the floor, moving furniture, it all took too long." Jacob said, grabbing some mashed potatoes.

"Its a good color though. Happy color." Bella added, tucking hair behind her ear and crossing her arms over the table.

"Yeah," Maggie sighed. "Happy color."

Bella excused herself up to her room and Charlie resided back to his chair and TV while Maggie walked Jacob out the door. The chilly Washington air nipped at her exposed arms, causing her to rub them quickly. Jacob took notice. "You should go back inside, it's too cold for you out here."

Maggie shook her head ferociously and smiled. "I'll be fine. You'll protect me, remember?" She teased flirtatiously. She couldn't see it, but Jacob's cheeks brightened at her words. He took a few steps closer to her spot on the walk way.

"What happened today is something my people have been dealing with for a long time. Come to the reservation sometime and Billy can tell you everything. You're safe there." Jacob said, tucking a piece of hair behind Maggie's hair. Her hand rested in his palm gently, absorbing the endless warmth from his palms. "Okay." Was all Maggie said.

"Call me if you need anything." Were Jacob's last words to her before he kissed her forehead and walked to his motorcycle. Maggie watched as he tucked his hair into his helmet and revved the engine alive. The lights popped on and soon he was off down the road and into the night. Maggie sighed happily and retreated back into the warmth of her home.

When she shut the door, Charlie's voice sounded from the living room. "You're getting real cozy with that boy, arent you?" He didn't take his eyes off of the TV.

"Its not what you think, Dad." Maggie chuckled, curling up into the corner of the couch. He gave her a side eye and went back to the screen. "Well. If you have ang trouble with him, he knows he will be greeted with a double barrel shotgun and a .12 gauge round."

Maggie glanced at the shotgun behind his head and rolled her eyes at her protective father. "I read you loud and clear, dad." She stood up and gave her father a kiss on the head. "Goodnight, Chief." She called as she jogged up the stairs. "Night, Mags." Charlie called back.
