Saturday came and while Bella was out doing who knows what, Maggie and Jacob were setting up Maggie's room for paint. Together they moved the furniture out, although to Maggie she was sure that Jacob did most of the lifting, and they placed the plastic protector on the ground. The window was open for the spring air of Washington to filter out the room and the hum of Jacob's speaker playing relaxing music provided white noise.
Maggie watched as Jacob reached up to the ceiling of her room to put on the blue tape along the joint of the ceiling and wall. The hem of his shirt rose up revealing a firm set of lower stomach muscles. Maggie could have sworn that just a few days ago she didn't feel those muscles but maybe she wasn't paying close enough attention.
"Take a picture, it'll last longer." Jacob teased, catching her attention. When her eyes went back to his, Maggie saw through the little pieces of dark hair that hung over his face, a smirk. She cleared her throat and scrambled to her feet. Maggie wiped her hands on her jeans and cleared her throat. "Thought I saw a bug."
"Mhm." Jacob answered. 'A love bug' he thought.
"Are you almost done there, Black? We are going to lose daylight soon." Maggie teased.
"If you would quit drooling over me, I would be able to get things done." Jacob teased Maggie. Her cheeks were very red at this point.
Maggie popped open the tops of the paint can and used the wooden stirrer to mix it up. She scrapped the sides along the lid before picking up the can and pouring it into the paint tray. Jacob handed her a paint roller and he took the extended one to reach the ceilings. They dipped their respective rollers into the trays and began painting. It was sad seeing the different Winnie the Pooh paintings being covered but this was a part of Maggie's growing up. She was almost sixteen and a typical sixteen year old wouldn't have Poohbear all over their bedroom. That didn't stop her from hiding away a stuffed animal and an old tee-shirt in a keepsake box in the attic.
An hour passed before one of the walls were finished. She stood back and looked at the work her and Jacob had done. Jacob rested the paint-roller on the ground and carefully stepped around the globs of paint on the floor. He looked down at Maggie, admiring how cute she looked with the yellow freckles on her face and arms.
She caught him looking and smiled. "Do you want a picture now?"
Jacob's expression didn't change. He didn't smile or retaliate, he just stared at her in total infatuation. It seemed that his heart beat faster whenever he was around her. He could feel the happy and nurturing aura that she radiated and all he wanted to do was basque in her happiness. He didn't want to make this weird though, so he kept his distance.
Maggie wasn't sure what to do, either. Her heart and soul felt magnetized to his. She didn't understand these feelings, nor did she know what to do with them. In the short time that she's been in Forks, she realized that every time she was around him she felt as if all her stress was lifted from her shoulders. She felt a sense of weightlessness. It wasn't until Jacob had looked away and out the window that she was brought down to earth.
She followed Jacob's gaze out to her window to a pack of shirtless men standing at the edge of the woods. Maggie, confused at first, felt fear quickly and looked to Jacob. "Who are they?" She turned to see him walking out of her bedroom door and into Bella's room. He pounded on the door and a very disgruntled Bella opened up the door.
Maggie stood by her door jamb and watched what was unfolding.
"Is he in here?" Jacob practically growled. His voice was low and serious.
"That's none of your business." Bella seethed towards Jacob. Maggie hadn't seen these two argue like this before.
"Bella. I need you to tell me if he is in here." Jacob demanded, searching behind her for whatever he was looking for.
