Spells, Curses, and learning

It was Saturday.  Ginny, Neville, and Hermione had all been ready to go the lesson, and Daphne and Blaise were in the living room of their Dormitory waiting.  However, it took a lot of convincing from all of them combined to convince Hadrian to go too.

"There's nothing for me to learn." Hadrian stated simply.

"It's the greatest wizard of all time, and the only one who Voldemort is afraid of!  Of course you could learn something from him!" Hermione cried, sounding exasperated.

"Plus, some other professors like Snape might be teaching.  You always like potions, maybe you could learn a trick or two from there." Ginny added.

"His name is Severus, and he's a common class vampire.  There's nothing he knows that I don't know." Hadrian responded.

"Well if you come with us, we could save time before going to the Room of Requirement by going directly, rather than meeting you here then going." Blaise offered, rather unhelpfully.

Hadrian raised his eyebrow at Blaise's comment saying, "I could just go directly to the Room of Requirement and meet you there.  If anything, not having me along would make your trip faster."

Finally, Neville spoke up.  "I know you don't want to go there, and you won't learn anything, but you could come to accompany us and glower and make comments about the other kids' incompetence.  Plus, if Mason's there, and he probably would be, you should be there to see what Mason is up to.  At least you'll be there if he decides to hit on Daphne."

Hadrian seemed to be actually considering Neville's argument.

"Why do you guys want me to go so desperately anyways?  I have research to do, vampires to deal with, and death eaters to track and kill." Hadrian responded, sounding agitated, starting to pace.

"As much as I hate to admit it, the Grey Rebels isn't really the Grey Rebels without you.  You sort of keep the group balanced with your negativity and unneeded sarcasm." Ginny said.  Ginny's rare compliment directed at Hadrian seemed to stun everyone.  Even Hadrian.

"Please?" Daphne asked, again.

"Fine." Hadrian said, summoning dragon hide combat boots, putting them on, and walking out the door, the rest hurrying to follow before Hadrian changed his mind.

Dumbledore was standing in front of a large crowd of students.

"The dueling club shall start in a month.  Until then, and even while it goes on, there shall be classes on learning how to duel and more spells every Saturday.  You may sign up on a piece of parchment in your dorm rooms.  Remember, do not be intimidated if you are of a lower year, for you shall start by simply dueling your peers." Dumbledore said.

"What about me?" Mason asked, smiling smugly at the fact that he was slightly more ahead than most in his year.

"You may also participate Mason," then turning towards the grey rebels in the back of the hall, Dumbledore added, "Our guests the Grey Rebels may also participate in this dueling competition."  After a few moments, Dumbledore clapped to regain everyone's attention and started the lesson.

"If your opponent has no wand, he or she is undoubtedly weaker.  Expelliarmus..." Dumbledore explained.

A few minutes in, Hadrian whispered, "This is useless.  We should just go to the Room of Requirement and train now."  Everyone else agreed, and they quietly slipped away.

"First, you need physical fitness.  If you're not strong enough, you won't be able to have stamina and keep your magic going strong." Hadrian started, flicking his hand and both Daphne and Blaise's wands flew into his hand.  Hadrian pocketed them.

"You won't need them for now.  First, we'll teach you physical combat and improve your fitness." he explained.

"Alright! Run 5 miles within 35 minutes then come and do 100 push ups then we'll start learning proper form for combat and wrestling." Hadrian ordered, pointing at the track that the room had provided them, and Daphne and Blaise both just simply stood there.  Shocked at what Hadrian was asking them to do.

"What?!?  If you want to be at your peak you have to work hard.  It doesn't come with just practicing wand magic." Hadrian added.

"Um.  Isn't that a bit extreme Hadrian?" Neville asked, and Hermione and Ginny decided to let Neville handle Hadrian, watching the conversation.  Daphne and Blaise both seemed relieved that Neville butted in.

"It is a bit extreme, but they'll get used to it." hadrian responded.

"But Hadrian, I don't think we ourselves could do 5 miles in that short of a time.  We're just good at short bursts of speed and that's all we really need." Neville explained.  Hadrian raised his eyebrows and turned to look at Hermione and Ginny, who both nodded sheepishly, showing that they agreed with Neville.

Hadrian seemed displeased at what Neville said, and finally spoke after a few moments of silence, "Fine then.  Maybe we all need to get in better shape.  Let's all hit the track."  Everyone's jaws dropped, not expecting this to be Hadrian's solution.  Hadrian's wrist flicked and 6 water bottles appeared at the edge of the track.  They were also all now wearing tank tops and shorts.  Another flick and all their wands flew towards Hadrian.

"Alright.  Let's run." Hadrian said, starting to walk towards the track and everyone hesitantly followed, seeming reluctant to do so.

Unsurprisingly, Hadrian finished first around 22 minutes and Hermione finished last at 41.  Ginny had come after Hadrian at 31 and Neville followed closely at exactly 34.  Daphne had finished alongside Blaise at 36.

"To be fair, I'm the least active only because i'm usually studying, but I still have a very strong magical core." Hermione said in defense.  Hadrian ignored and dismissed Hermione's excuse.

"Alright.  4 rounds of 50 consecutive push ups." Hadrian said.

~~~ 6 hours later
By the end of all the warm ups, drills, lifting weights, wrestling, and throwing combos at punching bags, Hermione, Ginny and Daphne had all shed their tank tops and were in only sports bras, but still drenched in sweat.  Blaise and Neville were in the same state as the girls and were both now shirtless.  Hadrian had barely broke any sweat and his tank was still on.
Everyone was leaning against the wall, panting and drinking water.  Hadrian had refilled their water bottles at least 30 times during the long session.
"Merlin's beard.  I'm going to be so sore tomorrow!" Ginny complained.
"Good.  We'll do some more drills tomorrow then start with dueling practice." Hadrian responded.  Everyone groaned in disappointment hearing this and Ginny's faces contorted into defiance.
"WHAT?  We'll be so sore tomorrow and you can't expect us to train this hard tomorrow!" Ginny said.
"Yes you will.  It will not only improve your stamina, but also your mental strength, will, and determination." Hadrian explained, sounding annoyed.
"I wish I was a vampire." Hermione sighed, a longing look forming on her face, "I would have better memory, stronger magic, better mental magic, more stamina, more strength, and faster reflexes and speed."
"Just stronger overall." Ginny said longingly, and Blaise seemed to share this wish to be a vampire adding, "and good looks too."  Daphne and Neville seemed unsure what to think and Hadrian was watching the three with disgust.
"Stop daydreaming.  And remember, everything has a bad side to it." Hadrian finally said, sounding disgusted, then he threw them their wands and walked out the Room of Requirement.
