I jumped off the large amp onto the stage, banging my head to the music that was slowly fading. Slim jumped on top of a stool that was on stage, the mic at his lips; He was getting the crowd rowdy, as usual. He was the best hype man there was, to be honest.
We had just finished performing Invincible - a crowd favorite. I wanted to get everyone's attention for the next song. I sang along to the hook when the music finally started.
I close my eyes, woke up and I saw my dreams.
The crowd went wild, singing along to the hook.
I close my eyes, woke up and I saw my dreams.
I brought the mic to my lips, bopping my head to the beat. "Yeah, and they told me all that glitters ain't gold, but I really wanna shine right now. And they told me, that the sky's the limit, so I wonder if I can fly right now. Yeah, so I spread my wings, jumped up and lived my dreams. I used to always say that I'd be fly, now I got my head high in the sky where the airplanes be. And now I'm reaching up for the stars, almost there. Told me I was dreaming too big, I almost care till I hopped in my spaceship and left the matrix through a place where there's no more air."
I made my way to other side of the stage, reaching for fans' hands as I went. I was grateful for every single one of them because, without them, I certainly wouldn't be here right now. They held me down.
I caught a quick glance of Dre walking onto the stage from the side. He remained in the back, delivering JP a water bottle and setting down a bunch more near the sound board where Dub was. I glanced at the side curtain and caught a glimpse of Ash and Sage. Ash was talking to someone behind her - one of the venue workers. Sage was grinning, watching the crowd's reaction to my performance.
"And now I go to sleep wherever they wanna be, opening my eyes seeing what they wanna see. And I never aged one year, still a grown ass kid. You could never tell me what I'm gonna be 'cause I might wake up and wanna be king, and see the president, and wanna be the same thing. Or maybe be a pilot and find my own island with a million dollars that I earned last spring."
I made my way closer to the side of the stage to get her attention. I ran my fingers through my damp hair and then pointed to her. She glanced up at me. "And of course, you know I'd have the world's prettiest girl waiting for me when I go away and when I get back, Imma kiss her like the very first time and take her to the malls and say, I want it all..."
She grinned at me as I winked in her direction. I held out the mic to the crowd as they sang the hook louder than the speakers could. I lifted my white shirt, passing it over my sweaty forehead.
I close my eyes, woke up and I saw my dreams. Living life like a movie scene, let me tell you what it feels like. I close my eyes, woke up and I saw my dreams. And I feel so free, can't believe this is real life.
I continued to perform the rest of the song with the same energy as I would like any other song. Slim joined me occasionally singing along to the song. Although I was engulfed in the show, I couldn't help but steal glances over at Sage every now and then to make sure she was still watching. There was a constant rush of adrenaline in me every time our eyes met - I couldn't get enough of it.
As we finally finished the set, I brought the mic back to my lips once more. "I got to admit," I began, looking out into the crowd. "I didn't think you guys had it in ya." I grinned as I turned to Slim. "Slim, did you think they had it in 'em?"
Slim looked over at me. "Had what, Kells?" he asked into the microphone. He was walking around the turntables, making his way to the front of the stage.
