Authors Note thingy

This one is dedicated to my art teacher at school Mrs. Stefanik. I know it's sounds a little weird, dedicating a writing piece to an art teacher, but she inspires me so much. She's always there when I need criticism, not being one to tell you everything you do is fantabulous or that everything you do sucks some serious man parts. In my opinion, she's helped me become the person I am today and throughout the years, has acted more like a friend than a teacher. I think it's only fitting this dedication goes to her. Anyways on with the chapter

"Hey Grey" I hear a voice say from behind me. I smile, knowing who it belongs to. Jess. She sits down next to me on the piano bench. "Getting ready for the festival thingy I see" she says looking at my music sheets. "'Paparazzi'? I still think you should do 'Swing, Swing'" she tells me, naming a song from her favorite band, The All American Rejects. She totally freaked out when she found out 2 of it's members are from Edmund.

"Yeah, yeah" I tell her, brushing it off. I like the song too, but I can't put as much emotion into it as I can with 'Paparazzi'. 'Swing, Swing' is about getting over a crush who broke your heart. Jess hasn't broken me yet... 'Paparazzi' is about trying to get someone to notice you. Or at least that's what I think.

"I still think you should come tonight" I tell her, facing her. "I already told you, I'm not. It's being held in a church. It's bad enough theres not a temple in Edmund and the city tried putting a cross on the flag. Sorry Grey" she says ruffling my hair "but I'll never go to a church. I promised myself that". I nod. I need to respect her religion, despite how annoying it can be.

I have nothing against it, don't get me wrong. It's just, we barely go to restaurants together because she has to eat kosher. And now she can't come to the festival because it's being held in a church. I nod and begin playing the song, but not singing. "I could teach you to play sometime" I offer her. "Nah. I'll stick with ma guitar" she says, patting my shoulder.

She looks at her watch, her eyes grow wide. "I gotta go to the hospital" she tells me, grabbing her guitar case, slinging the strap around her shoulder. "Already?" I groan, looking at the time. I go on in a little less than 2 hours. "Yeah. Sorry Grey" she says slipping on her signature black converse. She started going to the hospital 3 times a week, on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

I feel guilty, as if she's going more often because I rarely go anymore. I try to go once a week at least, but sometimes I just can't. "Bye Jess" I say, enveloping her in a hug. "Have Tanner take a video okay?" she asks before saying bye to me. She about to walk out the door before running back, kissing my cheek. My face turns red and she smirks. "Why'd you do that?" I ask her. "For luck. And don't act like you minded" she said, winking before leaving. I know she was kidding, but I really can't act like I did.

-About 2 Hours Later-

I'm jumping around nervously. I'm about to go on. In front of all those people. I start hyperventilating. My mom try's to calm me by rubbing my back but it doesn't even come close to working. My phone buzzes and I check it. I smile as I see what Jess sent me 'Kill em out there Grey. I believe in u. Don't 4get 2 get up if u fall. I'd kiss ur cheek if I could. Have ur mom do it 4 me. See u soon ;) xx'.

I smile at the message, clutching my cheek where her lips lingered just hours early.

They call my name, signaling me to walk out. Mom gives me a little nudge before taking her seat. I walk out and pull a smile that only Jess would recognize as fake. I do live music, but I don't know if I can get back up if Jessica isn't there when I fall. I sigh, keeping my smile as I sit down at the piano. I start playing and close my eyes.
