A.N. OMG. It's been so long. I've been very busy lately, and, honestly, kinda lost interest in writing for awhile. These last few months I think I've grown quite a lot, and I feel like become a much better writer. I'm ready to get back into this. Now, on with the chapter!
Harper's P.O.V.
Alex is SO cool.
I mean, she stood up to all those villains like it was no big deal! Amazing, right? the way she was able to stay calm, and come up with that plan, and-
I'm rambling again, aren't I? My dad says I talk too much. Anyways, she IS pretty cool, but it's so weird how she doesn't see it, just keeping to her self all the time. I mean, if I were her, I'd tell the whole world what had happened.
...and that's exactly what I did.
I told everyone how she had singlehandedly defeated three adult villains by herself, easy, and stood triumphantly over their passed-out bodies afterwards like it was no big deal, while everyone else stood in the background, frozen in time.
Okay, so maybe I did stretch the truth a bit, but it's no big deal, right?
What I don't understand however, is why Alex is suddenly so mad at me.
These past few weeks, she's just been avoiding me, hanging out with Claire in the background. occasionally I'll even see her glaring my way!
I don't know if she has a grudge against me or what, but I have to find out.
Time skip --------------
I was tossing and turning in my bed, unable to fall asleep. I checked the clock; 1:00 A.M. I sighed, starting to close my eyes again, when I heard a creak in the room next to me, where Alex was. I sat up, eyes wide open, and decided to follow her.
I crack my door open, to see her enter the elevator, and push the button to go up to the roof.
I wait a few minutes in silence, then go to follow her.
The elevator ride is extremely uncomfortable; I don't know what to say to her.
Why are you avoiding me? No, too interrogatory, a voice in my head says. Are you mad at me? She'll just say no. Can you be my friend again? No, way to desperate. Agh! What should I do?
The elevator ride was over way too quickly, and I somehow had less of an idea of how to get my feelings across. I started to panic as the doors opened, and before I knew it, Alex was glaring at me.
"What do you want?" She said.
I looked down, avoiding her gaze, "Well... um... I..."
She sighed, "are you just gonna stand there or are you actually gonna say something?"
"Why have you stopped talking to me?" I blurted out, "is it because I'm too loud? Too immature? Too... much?" I finally locked eyes with her.
"I'll tell you if you be quiet," she told me in the same cold tone, though now I could tell she was more mildly annoyed than straight out mad.
I nodded, and she took a deep breath, "to put it simply, I don't like the rumors that you've been spreading, or so to say."
I blinked, confused, "What rumors?"
She actually laughed this time, "you really don't know what I'm talking about?"
"No."
"Your retellings of the field trip, of course! They're so far from the truth! Ben helped, of course, and those other two students! They did the most of it! I was only able to do it because I had the element of surprise!"
Suddenly, I was angry, "Well I thought you'd appreciate it! It really was pretty cool, what you did. You don't understand how amazing it was!"
She narrowed her eyes at me, "I would appreciate it, if you told the truth."
And then I left.
The next morning...
I groggily walked into the classroom early, so that I wouldn't have to see Alex. I opened the door, expecting it to be empty, but to my surprise, I see Ben sitting there, resting his head on a desk, asleep.
I gently shake him awake, and he jumps up, surprised. He looked around a bit, panicked, until he saw me standing there.
"Uh, what are you doing?" I asked.
"I, uh, well, er..." he said, stumbling for words, "my quirk told me to get here early," he rubbed the back of his neck, "Instinct, you know..."
He looked at me, "You look tired..." pause, "and a bit annoyed. something happen?"
I sighed, crossing my arms, "Yeah, it's just... Alex is mad at me, and I'm not quite sure why, even though she told me."
"Well, what did she say?"
"She said that she didn't like how I was telling everyone about the field trip... said that I was giving her too much credit," my eyes started to water, and I couldn't stop it.
"Well, did you talk to her about it? I'm sure everything would be back to normal if you two took time to understand each other's side of the story."
"No," I said, "I, er... walked away before we could do that... But she was being very rude! I mean-" I stopped, realizing how childish I sounded.
"Well there you go," Ben said, starting to put his head back down on the desk.
"Wait," I said, and he sat up again, "is this why your quirk told you to be here? To help me and Alex sort things out?"
Ben paused, "...Yes," he said, "that nagging feeling is gone now, so I assume so."
I nodded, "okay, thanks, Ben."
He nodded in return, and went back to sleep.
