Above the sea,
in a building not
far from the beach,
is a hospital.
Inside a baby boy
lies, premature,
teeny tiny.
A young couple
cries – the doctors
say he could die
any day.
They are desperate.
A sweet face shows
and promises to heal
all that ails the child.
He is cursed to fall
in love with a
mermaid princess.
“He won't drown!”
his mother exclaims.
Evil laughs.
“No, my dear.
This silly girl
will leave her
place in the sea.
She will grow
legs and roam
this land – and
leave her city
to me.”
