the rest of the night goes by in a flash. luckily, jeongin managed to fall asleep on his bunk almost immediately.
it's now eight in the morning, all of the campers and counselors are situated near the lake. the same one jeongin was sitting at yesterday, with chan. the memory absorbs all of his thoughts and a soft smile is plastered on jeongin's face. this morning was surprisingly easy-going and he's quite excited for the day, for some odd reason.
"jeongin," jisung begins, "you seem.. weird today. why are you smiling like that?" he asks, furrowing his eyebrows and puffing his cheeks adorably. jeongin laughs lightly and shrugs.
"i don't know, i'm fine!" jeongin exclaims in response, which is totally true. though, he does actually know why, he isn't just going to tell jisung.
the counselors stand—although jeongin can't seem to find chan with them. he pushes his thoughts away as the counselors begin talking.
"alright. since today is your first official day in our camp, and it's fairly hot right now, we'll be doing water activities today! you'll be divided into groups and each of you will participate. one counselor per group." seulgi tells, holding up one finger. "there'll be four different activities. swimming, jet skiing, balloon toss, and volleyball!" she looks around at the others and they begin to divide groups.
after ten minutes, jeongin is with four other people—jisung (who's he's grown quite close with), jungkook, eric, and beomgyu. he's unfamiliar with the three others, but honestly doesn't mind. their current activity is jet skiing, which jeongin finds quite scary since he's never rode one before. it seems that someone notices his tenseness and grabs ahold of his wrist.
"don't worry," jisung assures, "you can ride with me!" jeongin gives a faint smile before they're all pushed to the area where they will be riding.
the five stood awkwardly around as they waited for their assigned counselor to walk over. seulgi, joohyun, and woojin were already situated in their areas, with chan still being no where to be found. they all look at each other with the same look—what the hell are we gonna do?
after a few seconds of wondering, jeongin spots someone in the corner of his eye. it was obviously chan, screaming a "sorry im late!"
but it isn't just any chan. its a sun-kissed-with-a-fully-unbuttoned-flannel-that-exposes-his-literal-twelve-pack-(and trail ;))-chan. and jeongin felt the heat, figuratively and literally. he looks so golden it's mesmerizing.
he felt an arm slither across his shoulders, "ah jeongin, you're staring a bit too hard at chan." jisung implies and jeongin shrugs him off.
"i-i am not." he defends, and jeongin is stubborn, so jisung just nods as if he's agreeing. all five of them line up and chan stands in the water, holding down a water ski.
he glances at them, and jeongin's harshly biting the innards of his cheek. he doesn't want to volunteer but he can't take his eyes off chan."so im assuming none of you have rode a water ski before, nonetheless driven one. so today i'll be teaching you! i'll show a demonstration, but i need a volunteer.." chan explains, looking around at the five, who look at each other as well.
after some time, jisung unexpectedly pushes jeongin out in front of everyone and smirks. "jeongin says he wants to." he states and jeongin shakes his eyes nervously. so much for riding with jisung..
"okay.. then, jeongin, you'll be apart of the demonstration." chan smiles and jeongin shyly smiles back, which weirdly soothes his nerves. he could see chan's dimples poking out through his smile, which is so adorable that jeongin could burst. he also suddenly felt so self-conscious, since everyone was staring at him.
he's, well, not the most muscular person, and standing around chan just dug that wound a bit deeper. he had a full twelve-pack and fricking triceps—TRICEPS! you could practically see chan's veins popping out when he even just lightly grasps the handle of the jet ski.
nonetheless, jeongin makes his way over to the ski and carefully hops on with the help of chan, who (innocently) put his hands on jeongin's sides to lift him up on it. jeongin ignores the gesture and adjusts in his seat.
"alright, so firstly turn the ignition—right there!" chan states, and jeongin does so. the engine starts revving, which startles jeongin. he quickly yanks his hands away.
"it's okay," chan softly assures. "it's just the engine. now, slowly push the throttle, that right there." he points to it and as jeongin is about to push the button, he feels a heavy weight at the back of him and takes a sharp breath.
"u-uh what are you doing?" jeongin asks and chan slips his arms under jeongins'.
"nobody's riding alone here, you've gotta have a professional." chan states, talking about himself. jeongin nods in response and tries to ignore the heat radiating between chan's chest and his own back, remembering what chan told him—push on the throttle.
and he does, which immediately turns to chaos. the ski is gone before the two can fathom and they're heading straight for the other activity sections. jeongin panics and chan now takes control, turning the ski so harm isn't in their way. though, they're still going so fast and are out far. the best thing to do is get off. so, chan randomly grabs the younger from the speeding mobile and both jump off into the water.
after two seconds, they both come up and chan is holding jeongin bridal-style, which is awkward on both parts. but they just stare at each other, well, it's more like jeongin staring at chan, who was wiping the salt water from his eyes. chan doesn't let go though, at least not until a few whispers were let out, in which he then drops jeongin into the water. jeongin curses under his breath and makes his way over to the four males who just witnessed the whole thing.
"so, um, that's not how it's suppose to go." chan says, awkwardly. everyone suddenly starts bursting out with laughter, including chan, though hesitantly, and jeongin couldn't help but to feel like an idiot. i cant do one thing right.
the thought makes tears well in his eyes and he begins to run to his cabin. no one notices, except chan, but he has responsibilities other than jeongin, he can't just abandon the four males, he tells himself. so, he carries on with the lessons and make sure none of them go the way the first one did.
