Drew's POV:
Tonight was a very important night. My pack and I have had to move around all our lives due to hunters. Since we are well known, we are targeted all the time. We moved to this area because of the rumours claiming the hunters here had died off or relocated. My father and I saw it best to find a proper home base for all of the pack memebers, and then stay for a few years.
We invited the elders, my father's Beta, his son (my best friend and my future Beta), my father's third in command, and his son (my other best friend and future Third), and countless others for the gathering. Earlier, I visited the houses in the area to scout the location of any threats that may pose a problem before our members living with us moved in. And this evening, my father is passing the position of Alpha down to me.
I waited for my best friends to arrive in my study. we still had 10 minutes until the ceremony, and I could already feel the pressure of the pack weighing on my shoulders. Before my nerves could get the best of me, I heard a knock on my door. "Come in." I called out from my desk, lifting my gaze from an old book.
My younger brother entered, looking a little on edge. He approached my desk, still a bit dazed about what he was going to tell me. "There is a strange family downstairs waiting for you. The Jacobs? Why does that name sound so familiar?"
I shook my head, "They don't know what they are. I inspected the property, and didn't find any evidence of him there. He must have relocated when the war was going on. I invited his children to investigate further, but as far as I'm concerned, they are as human as can be."
Jim still didn't seem all to convinced, "What about that girl? What do you know about her?" He tried to hide it, but something flashed in his eyes. I shrugged it off, thinking he had a crush. "I don't know very much about her, but she smells human. She's a bit irrational and kind of clumsy." He just nodded.
I glanced at my watch, and turned to Jim, "I have to go, the ceremony is about to start. Stall them for as long as you can, I'll be down in about 20 minutes." I jogged down the hall into the banquet room, which was just room that was supposed to be another game room, but we decided it would be a good place for pack meetings.
I spotted Chase and Nolan standing off to the side, and stood next to them. My father started the meeting with a long speech about the struggles our pack had faced in the past to survive. He added that the tradition usually is when the next of kin turned 21, they would be passed down the responsibility to carry the pack, but since I had just turned 19 and already was handling pack buisness, he and the elders thought it wise to break tradition, and make me Alpha early.
Of course, after the speech, the actual "Passing" began. I was the first, walking over to where my father stood. He gave me a nod, and I grabbed his hand. It only took a minute or two, but it was quite a painful proccess. Next, Chase walked over to his dad, Mr. Owens, and had his title as my Beta handed down to him. Then Nolan stood by his dad, both sharing a smile, and he became my Third. After that, the ceremony was over. I greeted everyone before taking my leave.
I wasn't paying attention to where I was going when someone walked right into me. I looked down to the girl in the red dress, and recognised the Jacobs daughter. She looked up at me with her red cheeks almost as bright as her attire. I couldn't help but smile at her. "What are you doing??"
"I got lost... Again..." She said softly, looking everywhere but at me. I inwardly chuckled at her child like innocence, "Here, I'll help you back to the dining room." I wasn't even thinking when I placed her hand in my own. I was overwhelmed by the electric shocks I got touching her exposed skin. I waited patiently for them to go away as I lead her to where the others were.
We arrived just in time as the food was being brought out on the large table. Everyone was staring at us, and I noticed instantly it was due to the contact Amelia and I were sharing. I dropped her hand immediately and took a step away from her as well wanting to gain as much space as I could away from her.
"Dinner is ready when you are!" my mother joked, which led me to scold her, and we went to take our seats. My plan to avoid Amelia was shot down once I saw the only seat left was the one beside her's. I reluctantly sat down, and we officially began eating. Surprisingly it went really well! There was something about this girl sitting beside me that intrigued me. It was almost like she was too good to be true..
Amelia's POV:
If you had asked me 24 hours ago what I would be doing tomorrow night, I would have told you Netflix, junk food, and my favorite pair of pajamas. Or if it has been a rather eventful and/or stressful day, I will grab a book, a cup of tea, and sit in my favorite blue rocking chair on my back porch.
Yet, here I was in the house of a rather strange and very attractive guy as he is giving me a tour of his large mansion of a home. Never in my life would I have thought this would happen.
Drew was currently showing me the downstairs area of his house, which had the Kitchen, Living Room, Dining Room, Library, a work out room, and a few bathrooms here and there. We began making our way up the stairs with him behind me. I gripped the railing for dear life since I knew how clumsy I was and I didn't want a repeat of what happened earlier today.
Alright, this house has way too many rooms. Was this a frat house before the Wilson's moved in?? Why would someone need this much space? It just seemed unnecessary for the small family downstairs. They had six members total. There must have been almost 30 bedrooms in this place!!
"Wow..." I breathed out without realizing. "What?" Drew had asked. "I don't mean to sound rude, but why do you have such a big house?" "We have people who are about move in." Wait, what? "Why?" I asked before I could stop myself. I probably sound really nosy right now. "They need a place to live." He simply answered, not giving me a glance.
We had come to the end of the tour when he showed me another library. This one was larger than the last on, and it had a huge grand oak desk in front of the window. I gawked at all the books sitting on the shelves and I was so eager to just pull one off and begin reading. "So when can I move in?" I joked to myself.
"Do you like it?" Drew questioned randomly. I turned around to the direction where his voice came from. He was standing behind the desk slightly leaning on it. Oh no.. He looked undoubtedly attractive since his stance just screamed strength and confidence, but most of all, power. How come he has this effect on me?
"Yeah, it is breathtaking!" I said, looking around the library in complete amazment. "Yeah," He said, staring at me with a smirk playing on his lips. "I know the feeling."
