The lobby of the asylum was packed with Vereins of all sizes and stages of life. All were muttering and spewing conspiracies on why Solomon had called them all into there.
"Maybe it's to give out deserts!" One small verein chirped in delight as he held onto his mother's hand.
"If it was that, we would've heard the shrieks by now," an older, gussied up verein pipped in.
Tony stood amongst them sweating heavily. Some due to the stuffy lobby, but majorly due to the lack of Gary's presence. He was tapping his shoes worriedly and looking amongst the mixed nonhuman and human, uncanny crowd in hopes of finding his friend.
Suddenly, a door to the side broke open and a loud thud came with it. Tony had a clear shot to see the door and saw a bloodied, wounded verein sprawled on the ground. It took a moment but he realized.
"Gary!" Tony hurriedly tried to push through the crowd only to be stopped by a hand tearing him away from Gary's grasp.
Gary slowly looked up at the crowd and set his head back down. Alfred strode out of the room with a smug grin on his face. He held his foot on top of the grey creature that flinched with pain.
"This verein has committed a crime we all know not to do," Alfred smirked. "One we all know to be the silent rule."
A hush fell over the crowd. Tony stared at Gary, muttering at him to get up. The grasp on his arm tightened, and Tony fell silent as did the tightness of the grasp. It still remained.
Alfred held up an old, dingy book that made the crowd gasp in fear. Tony looked up at the book- he recalled he had seen it earlier searching through Solomon's room. Could it be the one he was looking for?
"To not take the book! The one that holds the secrets to our very lives. The one that protects all of us from the harm of mankind." The man smirked a wide grin. "For taking the book means to be, a traitor."
The crowd spewed with an enraged roar. Hissing and cries of death spread throughout the lobby.
"Throw him off the cliff!"
"Tear off his limbs and feed them to the birds!"
"Toss him to us- we'll do the rest!"
"Silence!" A voiced boomed behind Tony. The room fell silent, and Tony felt the grip pull him towards Gary as a figure near him pushed him.
Gary opened one eye and looked at Tony, who was being held back by Solomon. A vengeful, smug grin was on his face as Tony was motioning him to get up. Alfred ripped Gary from the ground and made him stand up. Thought here, it looked more like he was sloughed over himself.
"I will conduct a trial for him. All is fair for him to act like the people he traded his own brethren's lives for," Solomon turned towards Gary and chuckled.
Tony quickly reached out for Gary but Solomon tugged him back.
"Get your hands off of him, you scumbag-" Gary snarled as Alfred jabbed him in the back, stopping him from jumping on Solomon. He fell to his knees and Tony gasped.
"Next time it'll be your head," Alfred hissed.
Gary looked up at Solomon who still had the same smirk on his face. Tony looked at Solomon.
"It-It wasn't him, Solomon- I was with him-" Solomon tugged Tony to his side.
"Hush hush, you don't need to make excuses for him. He won't hurt you now," Solomon cooed.
Gary jumped to his feet and growled, "The only one who's going to hurt him is you and your disgusting cult you monster-" Alfred jabbed him in the head and Gary fell back on the ground. Gary sat there as the crowd wilded up and cheered at his fall.
Solomon kneeled down and brought Tony close to him so Gary could see. He opened one eye and gazed at the two. Solomon reached by Tony's neck and moved the necklace hiding Tony's scent into view. Tony grew white as he stared at the necklace and then at Solomon.
Solomon's smirk grew wider and more wicked. "Don't worry, Gary. I'll take good care of 'Cornelius' here."
Gary fell out of consciousness as Solomon and Tony faded into the crowd.
