Thomas was excited, he had everything planned for his and Newt's date. His little sister Teresa had moved into Thomas' old apartment a few months ago and Thomas was going to take Newt with him to visit her.

Newt was nervous, they'd been dating for a week and Thomas was taking him in their first date, he didn't know what to expect really. Maybe they would be having a nice dinner or something, but Newt didn't really want to spend it with other people around.

Thomas had told Newt to be ready by ten pm, he knew it was late but it needed to be dark and perfect for his idea, luckily the weather was clear and no rain was due for at least a few days.

Newt was ready to go and Thomas soon came into their room, dressed to impress. Newt was wearing some black skinny jeans, a plain white t-shirt and some grey trainers that added a little height to him. Thomas, on the other hand, was wearing some dark blue jeans, a white button-up shirt and some black trainers that made him look little less formal.

Newt stared at Thomas while Thomas stared at Newt, both checking each other out, Thomas snapped out of it first and smirked, "Enjoying the view?"

"You betcha, Tommy. How can you look so god damn sexy?"

"Dunno. But I must've learnt it from you." Newt blushed at the compliment.

"Tommy?"

"Yeah, Newtie."

"Where're we goin'"

"You'll see." Thomas grabbed Newt's hand and dragged him to his car. Getting out his keys and unlocking the car, he opened the passenger door for Newt to get in.

"Thank you, Tommy." Thomas just giggled then got in the driver's side, both of them put their seatbelts on.

As they drove they both chatted away, talking about everything but nothing at the same time. They found it so easy to get lost in the other and were never afraid of messing up in front of each other.

When Thomas parked Newt realises where they were and looked confused. He asked Thomas why they were here and Thomas just muttered, "You'll see."

They walked up to Thomas' old apartment and Thomas knocked on the door, Teresa opened it and smiled at the couple, happy for her brother. Thomas asked if everything was ready and she nodded and told Thomas to hurry up already.

Newt was very suspicious of the current conversation and also very confused. Why would they be here for their first date, surely they weren't just visiting Thomas' sister?

Instead of entering the apartment though, like Newt thought, Thomas grabbed Newt's arm and started dragging him up the stairs that led to the roof.

When they reached the roof, Thomas pulled Newt over to a laid out blanket that had a picnic basket laying in the centre of it. Newt realised why they were here, the place they'd first met.

Newt looked over to Thomas and smiled, Thomas just looked back at Newt with hope in his eyes.

"Did you do this?"

"Sure did, I had Teresa's help though."

"Oh, Tommy, we can stargaze like when we met."

"That was my plan. After eating though."

"Yeah, I'm a little hungry." Thomas took out some sandwiches, mini sausage rolls, cocktail sausages, strawberries and two chocolate cupcakes. Then he put his hand back in and pulled out a bottle of wine and two glasses.

Silently, they sat down and started to eat. Newt would occasionally look over to Thomas and catch Thomas staring at him. They eventually started talking, discussing random topics.

They came onto accidents they'd been in, Newt started to explain how he got his limp.

"You know, I never told you how I got my limp. It happened because one day I...I just couldn't take it anymore. I was pressured by my parents to do well and my father used to beat me when I came out as gay, my mom supported me but was never around when my dad hurt me. I walked to my favourite bridge, I loved it there because it always calmed me. This time all it did was bring back memories that I wanted to forget. I c-couldn't handle it a-and I j-jumped. Someone f-found me and I-I lived." Newt had started to cry at this point.

Thomas noticed the tears and enveloped Newt in a tight embrace, protecting the fragile boy in his arms. All Newt deserved was happiness, not this torturing past.

"Hey, Newt. Look up at the stars." After hearing Thomas' voice, Newt couldn't help but calm a little, he obeyed Thomas' order and looked up at the twinkling lights that beamed down on him.

"I think stars work miracles, they brought us together and they will calm you down. If we are ever apart, for any reason, look at the stars and know that I'm always thinking of you and that I'm looking at them too."

"What if it's the middle of the day?"

"Newt, if it's the middle of the day, the middle of the night, dawn or dusk, it doesn't matter, just imagine the night sky and me next to you, holding you close."

"Tommy, can I kiss you?"

"Only if I get to kiss you back." They both leaned in and met in the middle, sharing a kiss filled with passion and a promise of forever.

Newt remembered that night and how it had started everything. It was now thirty years down the line and with two fully grown children and a ring around his finger, he smiled into his husband's side. Falling asleep happy with his life, Thomas is his forever.

Newt felt Thomas' arms around him as they slept, neither could be happier with the life they had lived, together.
