AN: Hello lovelies! Thank you for stopping to read my story! I wrote this one awhile ago but never put it up and then I forgot about it and it got lost on the abyss that is my computer lol! I went through some old files and I stumbled on it and decided to post it. It was one of the first stories I ever wrote. I was going to just put it up as is but I read through it myself I realized how bad it really was lol. So I decided to revamp it here and there before posting it. I've gotten through the revamp of the first 15 chapters, and I haven't posted in forever so I decided I'd post a few and gauge interest. Feel free to let me know what you think! I love reading your thoughts!! :) xoxo

PS: My apologies for the MAJOR slacking in getting these chapters up. Life has been pretty crazy lately. But I do thank you all for sticking with me and continuing to read my stories when I put them up and I thank you all even more for all of the feed back you guys give me. Reading your thoughts and comments is what makes writing so worth it to me.

Chapter 8

Trish and JJ didn't speak the entire ride. Trish posed for pictures with JJ when they first arrived for all of the reporters begging for pictures. JJ and the rest of the invited speaker all gave their speeches, the silent auction was complete, and the raffles were all complete. All that was left was dinner, drinks, dancing, and socializing.

"Hey girl, how about we go freshen up before we really kick this party up?" Romina suggested with a grin.

"Oh, umm, sure..." Trish stood up from her seat. "I'll be right back," she said, placing her hand on his arm as she leaned in slightly so JJ could hear her over the loud music.

JJ looked up at her with those big blue eyes and smiled that smile that made her weak in the knees as he nodded his head. He watched her until she completely disappeared from his view.

"Well, that's a positive!" Arian offered.

JJ just rolled his eyes and scoffed. "Oh yeah, real positive. That's the first time tonight she's spoken to me since I stupidly referred to her as 'my girl'."

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

"All right, we need to talk," Romina sprung on her as soon as they hit the ladies room and she was sure they were alone.

"What?" Trish sputtered out, confused.

"You haven't spoken to that boy all night!" Romina pointed out, narrowing her eyes.

"... Yes I have," Trish answered defensively after a short hesitation.

Romina rolled her eyes. "You haven't spoken a single word to him since we were at the house! Since he called you his girl!"

Trish shook her head but stayed quiet.

Romina narrowed her eyes, clearly not buying what Trish was trying to feed her. She crossed her arms over her chest and scowled. "Let's go! Out with it!"

"I... I... I dunno..."

"What do you mean you don't know?" Romina pressed.

Trish shrugged. "JJ caught me off guard when he said that. We haven't talked about making things 'official' or anything," she continued.

Romina threw her head back and laughed a loud, hearty laugh. "Please tell me you're joking?"

Trish rubbed her arm nervously. "Well... No... I..."

"Sweetie, are we still in middle school?" she asked, continuing to giggle.

"No," Trish shot back defensively.

Romina took Trish by the arm and led her over to the bench in the ladies room and then sat down with her. She leaned over and hugged her tight.

"I'm sorry honey, I don't mean to laugh but that's ridiculous! We're not in kindergarten anymore where we write down on pieces of paper 'do you want to be my girlfriend, circle yes or no.' We're big kids now."

Trish frowned at Romina. She wasn't very amused at her poking fun at her. "We were taking things slow..."

"A snail covered in salt is faster than this relationship is moving!"

"Well I haven't heard a complaint from JJ, so I guess this is the pace he's looking for," Trish snapped becoming more defensive.

Romina placed her hand on top of Trish's and gave her a reassuring squeeze. "Look, do you like JJ?" she asked bluntly. "No dancing around the topic! Either yes or no!" she quickly added.

Trish chuckled. "Yes..." she answered softly.

Romina's face lit up like a Christmas tree. "JJ's moving at your pace, not his pace. He doesn't want to scare you off. He knows you've been through a lot. If he had his way, you'd be 'official,' and halfway off to being engaged, moving in with each other... The whole nine yards," Romina joked. "What are you so scared of?" she pressed.

Trish shrugged. "I don't know..." She got up off the bench and walked over to the mirror to give herself a look.

Romina stood up and followed her to the mirror. "Yes you do! Tell me," she encouraged gently.

Trish finally let her guard down. She turned to face Romina. "Honestly?"

Romina nodded her head waiting for her answer.

"Everything... Rejection... Getting hurt... Not being what he needs... Not being what he wants... Not being good enough for him... The whole prospect of being in a new relationship..." Trish began rattling off. "What it all boils down to is that he deserves than me. I'm not good enough for him. I'm broken goods..."

Romina put her hand up in the air cutting Trish off. "Stop that right now!" she warned. "He likes you Trish and he likes you a lot... He's being patient and going at your pace because that's how much he likes you... How much you mean to him. He's willing to take whatever you're comfortable with as long as it means he can still spend time with you. He's waiting for your okay to move things to the next level."

Trish didn't say anything, she just took in all the new information Romina offered to her.

"All I'm saying is cut the boy some slack. It's been how long and he's never even kissed you! This is all in your hands. If you like the boy, take control and show him. Show him what you're comfortable with. I know JJ very well and he won't take it any further than you're willing to let it go. Give him a little something though girl!"

Trish nodded her head.

"Show him you're into him too before he thinks you aren't into him at all, takes things as platonic, and forces himself to look elsewhere," Romina warned.

Trish nodded again. The wheels began turning in her mind already.

"Okay, let's get back out there before they think we either took off or fell in," Romina suggested with a grin.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

"It's about time!" Arian joked. "I was about to send in a search and rescue party after you guys!"

"Shut up Arian!" Romina joked.

Trish took her seat next to JJ again. JJ's chair was pulled in close to hers, closer than she'd remembered it being before she'd left. His arm was casually resting on the back of her chair. He hadn't even noticed she'd returned, or at least he played it as if he didn't. He was busy talking to one of his other teammates. She quietly sat down and slid herself back into the seat until she could feel JJ's body. She nestled herself closely into his side and dipped shoulder under his arm.

JJ couldn't keep his attention on his conversation anymore. He casually looked down at Trish who looked completely comfortable nestled into him. He was a little shocked but he played it off well in fear she'd notice and move. She placed her tiny hand on his leg and continued her casual conversation with Arian and Romina. JJ couldn't stop the smile that pulled at the corner of his lips.

JJ brought himself back into the conversation with Trish, Romina, and Arian. As they were all talking and laughing, JJ casually let his arm slide off the back of the chair and across Trish's shoulders. Trish didn't move or flinch with his action, so JJ took it as she was okay with it. He decided to push his luck and see just how much he could get away with. He slowly slid his arm down her back until his hand rested on her waist. There was still no resistance from Trish which made JJ extremely happy. Now he couldn't stop the smile that was plastered across his face even if he had to.

"Hey honey? Why don't we go hit the dance floor for a little?" Romina suggested to Arian.

"Sure babe, let's go."

After a few moments of silence Trish finally looked up at JJ who was already looking down at her.

"JJ?"

"Yeah?" he answered, still smiling."

"I'm sorry," she answered simply.

JJ half smiled. "Sorry for what? There's nothing for you to be sorry about."

"Yes there i..."

"No there isn't," he interrupted her, his beautiful blue eyes boring into hers as he leaned in closer to her.

"J..."

"Shh..." JJ hissed softly, cutting her off again.

Becoming frustrated with JJ's responses, she quickly reached out and took JJ by the face. She pulled him closer to her and quickly covered his lips with hers, surprising both him and herself. It was a soft, gentle, kiss. It was nothing too extravagant but when Trish pulled back slightly, she couldn't help but to giggle at the goofy look on JJ's face.

"Are you okay?" she asked, still giggling but louder now.

He nodded in agreement but the goofy look was still plastered all over his face. "You know... If that's your way of shutting up talkative guys such as myself, I give full permission, consent, anything else you want to call it... But I give you full permission to shut me up like that at anytime you feel the need to."

"You wouldn't shut up... I had to resort to drastic measures!" she answered with a grin.

A devilish grin spread across his face. "Well, if that's the case... I'm going to talk all night... I'm not going to shut up... Not ev..."

Trish covered his lips with hers, silencing his tirade. She couldn't help but to smile and she could feel his lips smile under hers.

"Wanna dance, gorgeous?"

She hesitated for a moment. She could hear the 'old her' beginning to go off with negative comments but she shook it off. She was going to take Romina's advice. She wasn't going to let her own insecurities ruin what her and JJ could be. "Sure, let's go," she answered with a smile although she was trembling with fear inside. She played it off nicely.

JJ reached out and took Trish by the hand, leading her out to the dance floor.

Cottonwood fallin' like snow in July
Sunsets, riverside, 4 wheel drives
In a tail light circle
Roll down the windows, turn it on up
Poor a little crown in a dixie cup
Get the party started

JJ twirled her around and in close to him. He placed both of his hands on her bare lower back and began swaying back and forth to the music with her. She wasn't half as nervous as she'd thought she'd be which made her happy. Her legs felt slightly like jello, but she was able to keep herself under control. When JJ was confident she was okay with everything, he pulled her closer to him so their bodies were pressed up against each other.

Girl, you make my speakers go boom boom
Dancin' on the tailgate in a full moon
That kinda thing makes a man go mmm hmmm
You're lookin' so good in what's left of those blue jeans
Drip of honey on the money maker gotta be
The best buzz I'm ever gonna find
Hey, I'm a little drunk on you
And high on summertime

Trish casually looked around as she swayed back and forth with JJ. She finally came eye to eye with Brian who looked less than thrilled. Trish figured while she was already 'in trouble,' she'd at least make the most of it. She smiled at Brian with lit his face up with more anger.

"Y-o-u a-r-e t-o-o c-l-o-s-e!" he mouthed to her dramatically.

Trish grinned an almost evil grin as she took two steps closer to JJ and rested her head on his chest. JJ slid his arms around her tighter in response. He couldn't remove the smile that was plastered on his face. He was grinning like a fool from ear-to-ear and he was absolutely fine with that.

If you ain't a 10 you're a 9.9
Trippin' and spillin' that home-made wine
On your tied up t-shirt
Every little kiss is drivin' me wild
Throwin' little cherry bombs into my fire
Good God almighty

"B-a-c-k u-p!" Brian mouthed. "I-m s-e-r-i-o-u-s!"

Trish shook her head 'no' slightly. She closed her eyes and breathed in his scent deeply, enjoying her dance with JJ. She knew she was going to catch hell from Brian the minute he caught her alone but right then, at that very moment, she didn't care, it didn't matter. All she cared about was enjoying her dance with JJ, his scent, the feeling of his strong arms wrapped around her tiny frame, and the smile she caught plastered across his face when she snuck a peek at him while they were dancing. To her, nothing else mattered. For the first time in a long time, everything felt perfect. She had almost forgotten what perfect felt like but she sure didn't forget how much she loved it.
