Tony wakes up to aching joints and a rumbling stomach. This isn't too abnormal for how he's been spending his time lately.
His table is cleaner than how he left it, a mug of coffee still steaming by his head and a plate with pancakes. A little green sticky note sits beside it by his hand.
Made M pancakes for breakfast. Taking her out today. Pops hasn't come home yet so I'll take care of everything. -HarleyThere's a sick feeling filling his stomach, leaving him uncomfortable and more aching than before. He's been an awful father these past few months to the point where Harley's become more of Morgan's parents than they are.
It's not fair and he knows it's not fair, the guilt is already eating him alive, but Peter needs to be saved. Peter's gone. Peter's been gone for over two months. Sue him for feeling the need to prioritize.
The other thing that stands out to Tony as he blinks blearily at the neon green sticky note, is that Steve isn't home either.
Tony wasn't even aware he had left in the first place let alone that he isn't home yet. That means that Harley and Morgan have been left by themselves entirely for who knows how long.
"Fri?" Tony says, clearing his throat. "Are Harley and Morgan okay? How long's it been?"
"You've been on Do Not Disturb for about one hundred and twelve hours," Friday informs him.
Tony groans, letting his head fall into his hands. He's left two of his kids totally alone for the past four days despite that they've been through a recent trauma as well. It probably hasn't been easy on either of them to have gone through what they did.
"How long as Steve been gone?"
"About half that."
Steve's been gone for two days. They've been without parents for two days.
That's not that crazy because Steve and Tony have to leave for missions at least once every two months, but that doesn't make it any easier. They've abandoned their kids when they needed them.
"Have they been okay without us?" Tony asks quietly, not sure if he really wants to know the answer.
"Harley has had three panic attacks in the past thirty-six hours, hasn't slept in forty-eight. Morgan has shown signs of distress five times in the past forty-eight, but Harley has kept it from escalating into anything more," Friday explains softly.
"Fuck," Tony groans, tugging at his hair to try to get his train of thought back on track. "Fuck, okay. Where are they now? Where's Steve?"
"Steve is currently in Brooklyn visiting Sam and Bucky. Harley and Morgan are at the park by the school."
Tony opens his mouth to reply, but Friday cuts him off.
"Incoming call from Natasha Romanoff."
*"You have to get here as fast as you can, Tony," Natasha says before Tony can even say hello. "I think- I think I found where they used to be holding him."
"What?!" Tony exclaims, panic and worry filling his voice. Natasha can hear clanging on the other end as she assumes Tony drops a tool in the lab. "What do you mean used to be?"
"He's not here. There's no heat signatures, but there's... God, just get here now, Tony. Get a quinjet ready or something. Just- Just get here now," she instructs.
"Fuck, okay, okay. I'll, um, I'll call Steve to bring a quinjet. I'm taking the suit. I can- I can be there in four minutes."
