The rest of the party was a blur of dancing and drinking. I knew Johnny was next to me every moment. Having fun, laughing, and essentially being friends with me. But I don't think he drank a single sip of alcohol.
We were having such a good time until I passed out on the couch. I felt a strong pair of arms carry me to the car. I could tell that it was Johnny. I don't think anyone else would help me. But honestly, would he even help me?
I turned the thought out of my mind and went back to the sweet darkness that sleep brought. I slept the entire way until Johnny shook me awake. I was surprised when I realized we weren't at my house.
Johnny had parked in-front of a 24 hour diner. It was where everyone after school came to hang out. It was also my favorite place to eat.
"What are we doing here?" I asked in sleepy confusion.
"I realized you might get in trouble at home for coming home passed out and drunk so I thought I could help you sober up."
"Trust me. My parents won't care what state I come home in," I say distastefully. Johnny could tell I was getting in a bad mood and wrapped his arms around my shoulders to help me out of the car.
"Well, at least I can buy us dinner," he said.
I smiled even though it was probably 1 in the morning. We walked into the diner and took a seat by the window.
We ordered a couple coffees and two hamburgers. I insisted that I wasn't hungry but Johnny was persistent.
It turns out I was starving and ended up eating all of his French fries.
Happy, full, and sober, Johnny took me back to my house. He helped me out of the car again and walked me to my front door.
" Thanks for tonight, it was really fun," I said looking up into his hazel eyes. He seemed to have the slightest grin as his head leaned down closer to mine. Close enough that our lips met and it felt like everything in the world melted away.
We stayed like that for what felt like forever. When we broke away I could tell Johnny was blushing and I knew I probably was too.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Kenz."
He turned around to leave as I stood still at the porch and watched as he drove away. My mind was throbbing and jumbled at the thought of what happened.
I really liked Johnny and I wanted to get to know him better. To become friends, to become closer, to become even more.
