Eva POV
Today is Remembrance Day, the day where everyone grieves and is sad except for me. I push my grief aside so that I can be there for others.
This day really gets to Carlos. It's the one day a year where he goes the entire day without his hearing aides. The poor kid was destroyed by our family's death.
You write your letters? I signed to him as I sat down on the couch next to him.
Yeah and I helped Danny with his. He signed back sadly. I hugged him and he laid his head on my shoulder. I rubbed his back and the twins sat quietly on the floor, noticing Carlos's sadness.
Jed and Max came over and Jed sat down next to Carlos. Jed patted him on the back and Carlos sat back up.
"Hey." I greeted the two sat boys. "Did you guys write your letters?"
"Yep, one to Uncle Stefan and two to my biological parents." Max explained, holding up his letters.
"Yeah, I wrote to my friend Nikki." Jed said, patting his pocket where the letter was.
Then I saw Hope walk by and I called her over. She came over with a smile and kissed my cheek.
"Hey, did you write your letters?" Max asked, trying to be nice and get over his fear of her.
"I don't really like Remembrance Day." Hope said with a shrug.
I wrote letters but Hope doesn't. We don't talk about our grief, we push it away, which isn't healthy but it's just how we are.
Carlos stood up without a word and left the room to go grieve in peace, Jed went the other directional give him space, and Max went to go call his dad. Those boys are the sweetest kids here, they just get a bad reputation sometimes.
Danny and Alex ran off to go play some game. They don't understand today because they're so young. Honestly, if I told them that I was their mom, they'd believe me.
Hope grabbed my hand and lead me towards the cellar. I followed like the whipped girlfriend I am but she stopped suddenly.
"You okay?" I asked, wrapping an arm around her waist to help her.
"Yeah, I just feel a little nauseous." She said with a slight smile before continuing to lead me downstairs.
"Why are you bringing me down to the cellar?" I asked her as we walked and she smirked.
"Because I need to interrogate a monster and I knew you'd get a kick out of that." She told me and I smiled. I love her crazy ideas.
When we got to cellar, I saw the monster and a very frustrated Alaric. This should be interesting.
"Oh, there you are, lovely girl. I was wondering if you'd come visit me again. How's your friend, the one I saw you with earlier, trying to steal an illicit peek at me?" The monster said and I could already tell that he was going to be annoying.
"As we speak, he's having an emotional reunion with his dead girlfriend. I assume we have you to thank?" Hope explained. Oh shit, what did I miss?
"Poor dear. Her spirit was clinging to him like a vine in winter. It took barely any effort. Just a little wrinkle of the nose, and poof. Young love reborn. You're lucky that's all I did.The way you've treated a man of my stature, you should be ashamed." The monster said and Alaric slammed the cell shut.
"Literally nobody knows who you are." He said, exasperated.
"That's impossible." The monster rolled his eyes and I had to suppress a laugh.
